Scenario – Preparing for PlanetG3 network installation
Your proposed PlanetG3 network design has been approved by your client PlanetG3. You now need to start preparing for the network installation.
You have been asked to develop a network installation plan and contingency plan for setting up the small office network for PlanetG3.
You have also been asked to review the cabling installation documentation, completed by the sub-contractor All Cabling, who have just installed the required cables for the PlanetG3 network.
These plans will need to be approved by PlanetG3 before the network installation can take place. PlanetG3 will also need to provide security clearance and approve final timings before you can commence the network installation.
Part 1: Network installation plan
Preparation
For this assessment you will be using the XYZ Network Installation Plan ICTSAS307 Install, configure and secure a small office or home office network LMS 3 (XYZ_Network_Installation_Plan_ICTSAS307 Install, configure and secure a small office or home office network LMS 3.docx). This document ICTSAS307 Install, configure and secure a small office or home office network LMS 3 will be used to document your installation plan for PlanetG3. It is in ICTSAS307_AE_ SR1.zip.
Open this document ICTSAS307 Install, configure and secure a small office or home office network LMS 3 and save it as PlanetG3_Network_Installation_Plan_yourname.docx. You will be writing your PlanetG3 Network Installation Plan as you progress through the steps of this assessment.
Before you start this assessment you should have already successfully completed Case study 1 assessment and received feedback on your PlanetG3 Network Design from your assessor.
Step 1.1
Carefully read the information provided in the case study PlanetG3 Project Scenario (PlanetG3_Project_Scenario.pdf). You should also review your PlanetG3 Network Design.
Based on the case study and your PlanetG3 network design, develop a network installation plan with prioritised tasks for PlanetG3’s small office network. Make sure you include the following information:
- List of ordered tasks required to complete the network installation
- Priority of each task as Low, Medium or High
- Approximate task duration as either days or whole hours depending on the task
g. one day or two hours - Approximate start and end days and times, e.g. Week 1 Day 1 9:00
You will need at least five tasks in your network installation plan.
Document your answer in your PlanetG3 Network installation plan under Part 1: Network installation plan.
Part 2: Contingency plan
Step 2.1
Using the network installation plan you created in Step 1.1, develop a contingency plan.
Make sure you include the following information:
- List of ordered tasks from your network installation plan
- Any identified risks associated with the task
- Contingency steps that you will take should the risk eventuate to ensure minimal disruption to the client.
Overall you should identify at least four possible risks and associated contingency steps in your contingency plan.
Note: Not all tasks will have risks associated with it. In this case enter ‘N/A’ under both the Risk and Contingency column.
Document your answer in your PlanetG3 Network installation plan under Part 2: Contingency plan.
Part 3: Cabling installation review
Scenario – Cabling review
Your cabling installation supplier, All Cabling, has completed installation of all required cabling for the PlanetG3 small office network. They have provided you with documentation using the industry standard TCA1 form. You need to review this documentation to ensure the work has been carried out correctly.
Step 3.1
Review the documentation provided by the cabling supplier, All Cabling, All Cabling customer cabling advice (All_Cabling_customer_cabling_advice_TCA1.pdf).
To confirm that the installation has been completed according to industry standards:
- Identify the standard under which the work was done.
- Find a link to the government website which identifies the current Australian standard for wiring work.
- Can you then confirm that the installation has been completed according to Australian industry standard? Explain how you have decided this.
Use the following table for your answer. (Approx. 50 words)
Step 3.2
In Case study 1 you analysed the client requirements, including the building requirements, to determine the network layout and cabling requirements for your client’s small office network. This included a network layout diagram and list of cables required to connect all end-user devices in your network. (See Part 4 Cabling requirements, 4.1 Network layout and 4.2 Cabling lengths, of your PlanetG3 Network Design.)
- Copy the list of required cable connections into the table below.
- Next to each entry in the table, enter in the relevant information from the documentation provided to you by the cabling supplier, which confirms that this connection was completed correctly.
Use the following table for your answer. Add rows to the table as needed.

Step 3.3
This part of the assessment will be completed as a role play. Please refer to following Observation checklist 1 to help prepare yourself for this task.
Before attempting this task, you must have already completed all the previous steps of this assessment item. You will need to bring a copy of your network installation plan to this ‘meeting’. You also need to ensure that you are familiar with the client’s requirements.
Scenario - Meeting with PlanetG3 client representative
Before you can progress in your work you need to meet with your PlanetG3 client representative, Jason Brown. The goal of this meeting is to review your work to date.
The agenda items for this meeting are as follows:
- Review of client requirements
