Specific task instructions – role play (Part 1)

• You should refer to the list of criteria provided in the Observation checklist to understand what skills you need to demonstrate in Part 1 of this assessment. This checklist outlines the Performance criteria, Performance evidence and Assessment conditions your assessor will be marking you on.
• Your demonstration of the role play will be used as part of the overall evidence requirements of the unit.
• The video recording of your role play will be observed by your assessor.
• Limit your role play to no more than five to ten minutes.

Part 1: Role play scenario – discussion with client

To complete this part of the assessment, you are required to participate in a role-play with the aid of someone, such as a colleague. Your role play should demonstrate the conversation with your client representative from ABC Company, which you need to act out.

You are required to take a video recording of your role play ad submit it as evidence. Follow the Video recording instructions (pdf) to record and submit your video.

Note: Read the ABC background information which is contained in ICTNWK305_AE_Sk_2of2_SR1.zip and criteria for the role play carefully before performing your demonstration.

Role play scenario:

ABC Company wants to set up a local area network for their business. As the network engineer, you are required to provide advice on communications technologies and the protocols and services that are most appropriate to meet client requirements.

Notes:

• Your client does not understand technical networking terminology very well so you will need to make sure you use language and communication skills that are appropriate for your client and context.
• Your assessor will assign a suitable person (e.g. another student) to play the role of the client representative from ABC Company and provide them with the relevant information.
• Prepare a set of questions you want to ask from your client based on the following:

1. Client business domain, including client organisation structure and business functionality.
2. Evaluate client user requirements to provide recommendations for network protocol services.

• Demonstrate the discussion between yourself and the internal client.
  1. Use questioning techniques to evaluate user requirements and confirm understanding.
  2. Provide clear explanations and recommendations for network protocol services using relevant language suitable to audience to convey requirements.
  3. Use listening skills to respond to the client appropriately.
• Write a document as a follow-up to the conversation with the client to record your recommendations on communication technologies, industry accepted hardware and software. You must include the following points in your written submission.
  1. Describe the overall client business domain/area. Include client organisational structure and different functions of the business.
  2. Research and list at least three current communication technologies and their associated protocols that would be suitable for ABC Company.
  3. Research and outline industry accepted hardware (at least two) and software (at least two) products with their general features and capabilities that would be suitable for ABC Company.
  4. Clarify vendor product range and development directions as appropriate for ABC Company. (Note: Think about the vendor of the products you have outlined before and research how often a newer product range/model/version could be made available by the vendor. Comment on any other development directions of the vendor.)
  5. Give a basic explanation of two new file systems that you would recommend for a network environment as used by ABC Company.
  6. Give a basic explanation of two user access principles that ABC Company should adopt for their employees.
  7. Give a basic explanation of two disaster recovery procedures that would help ensure the integrity of ABC Company’s data.
  8. Outline two legislative requirements related to keeping the licensing of software products up to date.

Note: You may have to perform further research into some of the areas to obtain relevant and most up to date information.

• Include your fullname, student number and date of submission on the header/footer of the document.
• Ensure that the document is renamed as Firstname_Lastname_AE2_Skills
• Submit your document in either .docx or .pdf

Part 1 Observation checklist

The Task/Activity and Observation checklist will be used by your assessor to mark your performance in the previous event type. Use this checklist to understand what skills you need to demonstrate in the role play scenario and what you are required to complete as part of the evidence for these units. The Checklist lists the assessment criteria used to determine whether you have successfully completed this assessment event. All the criteria must be met for all the units listed in this clustered assessment. Your demonstration will be used as part of the overall evidence requirements of the unit. The assessor may ask questions while the demonstration is taking place or if appropriate directly after the task/activity has been completed.

If you are required to demonstrate the task and be observed by your assessor, the checklist below will have a tick near the criteria in the Observation column. If you are required to gather and submit evidence to complete the task, the checklist below will have a tick near the criteria in the Evidence column.

Specific task instructions – practical tasks (Parts 2, 3 and 4)

Read and follow the instructions given below carefully, before performing Part 2, 3 and 4

Ensure you do the following when you receive the Packet tracer simulation file (ICTNWK305-Skills.pka) from your assessor.

1. Create a folder called Firstname_Lastname_yyyymmdd (for example John_Smith_20191216)
2. Copy the simulation file into Firstname_Lastname_yyyymmdd
3. Rename the packet tracer simulation file to the following: ICTNWK305_Skills_XXXXXXXXX

Note: The number referred to as “XXXXXXXXXX” is your TAFE student number.

1. Double click on the packet tracer simulation tracer file to open it.

Note: If there are any pop-up screens, you need to say Yes/OK. You will also be prompted to login with Cisco Networking Academy credentials.

1. On the user profile pop-up window, type your full name and click on OK
2. Observe the given network for ABC Company. Based on this network complete Part 1, 2 and 3 of this assessment task.

Part 2: Connect devices using correct cables

Refer to the ABC Company network design in the given packet tracer simulation file which is contained in ICTNWK305_AE_Sk_2of2_SR1.zip

Identify which cable types you would use to connect the following devices and fill the Cable type column.

Part 3: Record and validate correct IPv4 host addresses

Refer to the client ABC Company network domain design and IPv4 organisational addressing scheme structure in the given packet tracer simulation file. Record the correct IPv4 addresses along with the subnet mask, gateway and DNS addresses where applicable for each device given below.

Part 4: Configure, test and validate network protocols and services

To complete this part of the assessment, you will be required to participate in a practical demonstration of how to complete a task or activity.

You are required to take video recordings of your demonstrations and submit these as evidence.

Your responses will be used as part of the overall evidence requirements of the unit.

You should refer to the list of criteria in the Observation checklist to understand what you need to demonstrate in this section of the assessment. This checklist outlines the assessment criteria used to assess your performance.

Once completed you will need to submit this assessment and the tasks and activities you are required to complete to your assessor for marking.

When you have completed all demonstration tasks, do the following:

• Place the PT Activity: window (which will display your overall score as a percentage) on top of your Cisco Packet Tracer file as shown in below:

• Use the snipping tool to take a screenshot of your entire Cisco packet tracer screen so that the filename will show your student number, the device connections as well PT activity window. Save the screenshot as Yourname-PT-result.
• Save your packet tracer simulation file along with your configurations.
• Ensure you have the following two documents inside the Firstname_Lastname_yyyymmdd folder:
  1. Cisco packet tracer file: ICTNWK305_Skills_XXXXXXXXX.pka
  2. Screenshot: Yourname-PT-result
• Right click on Firstname_Lastname_yyyymmdd folder and select Send to > Compressed zipped folder.
• Submit the Firstname_Lastname_yyyymmdd zipped file to your assessor for marking.
