Assessment Task:

Business reports are practical learning tasks where students apply the theories they have been studying to real world situations.

Given a scenario the students are required to collect information (primary and/or secondary) and prepare a report applying their research to make recommendations that address the business scenario.

This report should consist of the following parts: Executive Summary, Introduction, Objectives, Methodologies, Information Analysis, Findings, Recommendations, References, and Appendices.

ASSESSMENT DESCRIPTION:

Diversity is Logical

Scenario

Logical Solutions is an information technology company that provides system’s integration services to large corporate and government organisations. It designs local and wide area networks, supplies software and hardware, installs the software and hardware, develops bespoke solutions, trains staff in the use of the systems and provides hardware maintenance and software support.

The company has grown over the past seven years from the proprietor working with a small team of four staff working out of a shop front office in Sydney to an organisation of 250 staff in four offices in Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne.

The Managing Director, Richard Lee, has noticed that there is a large number of people from different racial and social groupings on staff. Of the Logical Solutions staff approximately 60% come from households where English is not the only language spoken in the home or where it is not the main language spoken. There are approximately 40% women and 60% men in the work force and the age of employees range from 18 years of age to 60 years.

Richard attended a meeting of information technology executives and one of the attendees who is CEO of a similar organisation to Logical Solutions was talking about his organisation’s “diversity policy”.

Richard thought there might be something in this for Logical Solutions.

Knowing that you are undertaking your business studies at Kent Institute he decided to ask you to prepare a long report which investigates Diversity Policies for Logical Solutions to consider. He tells you that that the meeting of executives was the first time he had thought about diversity in his organisation and knows nothing about diversity policy.

What you are to do:

Prepare a “Long Report” to be presented to the Managing Director of Logical Solutions outlining what a

diversity policy is, what its advantages and disadvantages are, recommending whether a diversity policy should be adopted by Logical Solutions and what form would it take.

As this is a group assignment 50% of the grade will be moderated by peer assessment.

Your report must include:

At least five reference sources including the prescribed text book, none of which are internet sources, e.g. websites.
