VARK refers to the different type of learning styles, by which an individual will identify and learn about various styles after going through the questionnaire. Different type of students has possessed different styles of learning, which ultimately helps them in gathering the necessary and useful information. After going through the VARK questionnaire, the results that are obtained showed more of a connection to a read/ write learner with a strong leaning towards the Aural, Kinesthetic and Visual learner. The various types of learning styles help in evolving the effective and efficient learning strategies that will enhance the learning skills of a learner. The VARK questionnaire is defined as the important tool, which helps the learner in knowing and understanding their preferred learning style, and permits the teacher to adopt the improved ways of passing on the information. To discuss the purpose of the VARK questionnaire, a personal questionnaire will be assessed in order to enhance the learning styles.
Read-write is the preferred learning style with highest scores in it. The read/write style of learning involves reading the material and then writing it down for the purpose of learning. In this style of learning the highest scores are found in the VARK questionnaire. Students who take the benefit of this style of learning like reading and afterwards writing out their views or opinions on the material (Abu-Ayyash,2016). This style will help the students in making good notes and helps in enhancing the understanding of the course material through reading. These type of learners likes reading and has fewer problems in understanding the concept of the subject. As there are many topics in the subject matter, some will create interest and some results in lack of concentration due to less interest. The outcomes of the VARK questionnaire showed the strong tendency for Aural which is followed by Kinesthetic and Visual.
The aural learning involves the learning by listening to music, sounds and voices. This style of learning is common in learners who want to learn by talking with others, or putting their notes in the form of tapes and listen to them as and when required. Aural learning style interprets sounds in the word form. This style of learning helps the learners in memorization of plays and lines in a better and easy way (Anderson,2016). This type of learners like to learn by discussing ideas, theories and topics and they like to hear before learning.
Kinesthetic is the learning style with third highest scoring in it. This style of learning involves the development of knowledge and skill in the area of learning. The kinesthetic style of learning focuses on performing the activity of learning rather than listening or observing somebody in the class with the help of subject material. These type of learners prefer their hands and body language in order to learn something in an innovative way. This style helps well in light of the fact that holding data was observed less demanding when permitted to have the capacity to physically participate in the learning procedure. When sitting as yet tuning in to an address, there were issues with centering and taking in the material.
The test determines the lowest scores in the Visual style of learning. Visual style learners have the habit of seeing the learning material in order to perform learning. This style of learning focuses on highlighting key words and points in order to learn and understand. Making flash cards and being compact enable me to audit the material. Having the capacity to show ideas without the utilization of numerous words or data takes into consideration the utilization of mental symbolism. Changing over notes into images, outlines, and pictures take into consideration simple retention and perception for later review.
It is essential to make the strategies that are helpful for the groups and the individuals who are with similar needs of learning. The Keefe’s triangular model of learning (1979) is a helpful one in creating the strategies. This model consists of learning styles, environment and the teaching styles. From the point of view of teacher, the strategies involve the speed in the lesson delivery , pitch for creating the aural environment and the pace of volume for the learners or students. The awareness of learning styles and strategies has a positive influence on a teacher as it makes its teaching style more effective. (Nisbet, 2017) When the teacher will understand the various styles of learning, they can adopt various methods for providing assistance to the students in the class in terms of learning material. If the teacher only focuses on the audio or visual modes of presentation in the teaching style it will be a bit difficult for the students, who have strong read/write skills .so the teacher has to understand the learning style that helps in the development of learning strategies.
The VARK questionnaire is an important tool for learners that helps them in understanding their preferred learning styles. There are many styles of learning which includes read/ write, kinesthetic, visual etc. So all these styles help the student in making a good learner by developing the effective strategies.
