Question
1. You have to compare different materials (such as Plastic, timber, or steel) to construct the shed and pick the most suitable one.
2) Explain why I am choosing that?
3) You have to provide a general footing design to support the shed.
4) The assignment should contain pictures of different material sheds along with the advantages and disadvantages of each material.
5) You have to rate each material (by making a table) before I chose the best one in constructing a shed.
Answer
Introduction
Shed are key and popular storage method, which has been used since the ancient days. The sizes, structure and cost factors are some of the critical issues which has to be considered in the choice for the proper shed type (Uchida et al., 2011). The existence of the different choices of sheds is able to make it difficult to come up with the correct choice of material for the shed. Nevertheless, the different needs and requirement are able to guide to the proper choice of shed.
Comparative analysis
The key factors, which are considered in the choice of material for the shed, include the cost factors, durability, availability, aesthetic and the needs to be met for the shed. Proper analysis of the material for the shed is able to enhance the meeting of the key requirement issues of the owner (Crowl et al., 2006). Moreover,
other factors such as the weather reactions and reactions to the environment are key to be considered in the choice of the shed material make. The existence of timber sheds, plastic shed and steel sheds is able to enhance the different options which people can make when it comes to sheds. This project relies on the construction of the shed and therefore reliability on getting the materials is a key factor on the choice of shed to be constructed (Matos at al., 2014). The material choice will be able to consider all these factors and therefore enhance the success of the project considering its economic factor and its durability. The steel, timber and plastic have different characteristics when they are exposed on different conditions.
Reasons for choosing metallic shed
The chosen material for the shed is use of metal shed. One of the key reason for the choice of the metal shed is on the aesthetic. The mettalic materials are able to offer the best eye appealing appearances and therefore able to be more attractive (Crowl et al., 2006). Moreover, the metallic materials are able to blend well with the surrounding and therefore become a better choice for the shed since they are able to blend well with different colors. In addition, another key issue, which has to be considered in the construction, is the flexibility of the used materials. Among the three materials, metal is more flexible since it can be cut on any required size during the construction. In addition, the changes on the size can be made and any additions on the shed can be made. This is unlike the plastic materials which will be difficult to add the size while the materials are cut. In addition to the flexibility, renovations on metal sheds are easily made unlike on the other types of shed which are made from plastics.
Durability is another key issue which needed to be considered in the choice of material for the shed. The metallic sections are able to withstand harsh weather and do not need any seasoning or treatment for their use (Miller, Miller & Baker, 2004). The metallic sections of the shed are able to reduce the additional costs which could have been incurred for the treatment purposes. Moreover, the metal shed are not easy to get destroyed and can be ideal for the plumbing sections. The materials can operate within watery areas and can serve for a long time with a paint coating. This coating is able to prevent rusting of the sections and therefore able to offer the required durability measures. This was a key reason for the choice of the metallic shed (Rousseau, 2006). In addition, the accessibility of the metal materials for the shed is another key reason which led to the choice of the metal shed. The metallic materials are readily available and therefore this reason enhances the construction of the choice. Additionally, the assembling of the metal shed is easy as compared to the plastic and timber shed. This is another key reason for the choice of the metal shed to be constructed in this project. Lastly, the cost of metal is low as compared to the plastic shed. This enhances the economical nature of the shed and therefore enhancing the construction of the shed.
Pros and cons
The three types of the shed have their own cons and pros, which enhance their existence. The choice of the shed will depend on the use, which the shed has to be used for at any given time. The advantages and disadvantages are key in the choice of the shed to be constructed (Miller, Miller & Baker, 2004) The area of use is also a key parameter which the pros and cons will be able to determine the type of shed to be chosen (Braadbaart, 2013). The major advantages of the timber shed is that they are strong, durable, ability to access the materials, high aesthetic and easy and cheap to repair. The major cons of the timber shed include regular maintenance requirement, and the large roof requirements.
The metal sheds pros include the cheap, being maintenance free, weather friendly, fire resistant and maintenance free (Guiselini, Pandorfi & Silva, 2015). The major cons include that they are not strong as timber, are timber consuming to assemble, requirement for the sealing, condensation issues and can easily rust making them weak.
Lastly, the plastic sheds have their advantages such as maintenance free, lightweight, and simple to assemble and weather proof. The major cons to the plastic sheds include weak in nature, cannot be painted to any color, condensation issues, they are not economical, and they are limited in sizes and styles.
