Answer:
Crime Scene Analysis
Crime Scene analysis is analytical process whose primary aim is to understand the different features of a crime including the crime scene. In the particular crime scene, I was the forensic crime scene officer whose role was to collect DNA, documentation of the crime scene and also analysis of the evidence gathered. The key significance of the above mentioned roles was that they helped in the analysis and collection of physical evidence at the crime scene (Sea and Beauregard, 2017 p.100). The essential priorities at the particular crime scene included ensuring that all the individuals were safe and sound. The other priority was to separate the various witnesses who were at the crime scene and also to preserve evidence by restricting an unauthorized individual from getting into the crime scene.
While at the crime scene I adhered to the guidelines relating to the crime scene investigation. Upon the completion of the evaluation of the crime scene, I gained a lot of knowledge and experience which has increased the level of understanding of assessment of particular crime scenes (Kwon et al.2017 p.550). Additionally, there are also certain health and safety considerations which I took into account while assessing the crime scene. Such health and safety considerations are important because some of the individuals in a crime scene can be exposed to certain health and safety hazards. Some of the potential hazards included chemicals, firearms, biological materials such as blood and unsafe structures. The scene sketch contained pieces of evidences collected such as weapons, knives and the crime scene. Also, there was the sketch of the victims at the crime scene.
There were certain other witnesses at the crime scene whom I had communicated to inquiring on what really transpired. The possible evidence types which were gathered included, firearms, fingerprints, videos, photographs, and fibers among others. The above categories of evidence helped in the analysis of the crime scene (Salfati, 2014 p.150). There are also certain challenges which I faced while at the crime scene. For example, there were certain members of the team who were troublesome and hence not much evidences were gathered. The other challenge was due to the existing witnesses who could not communicate due to the language barrier and also fear. Despite, the challenges, there are certain things I liked about the team members such as effective communication with the witnesses without intimidation. Another element which I liked about the team members was the level of unity which they displayed which enabled us to collect evidence.
Besides the things I liked at the crime scene, there are also certain other aspects which I disliked such as inadequate time for proper investigation and also an insufficient number of investigative officers to help in the assessment of the particular crime scene (Gardner, 2016 p.55). The investigations at the crime scene enabled to attain a certain level of confidence among the public and this was attributed to the fact that the criminal offenders were arrested and later prosecuted in the court of law. Further, at the crime scene, photographs of the weapons, knives, fibres and the crime scene were taken as evidence to provide support at the court of law.
Conclusion
In summary, crime scene analysis is important since it equips an individual with various skills and knowledge which aids in gathering enough evidence to prosecute criminals. However, there are certain challenges which could be experienced such as fear and intimidation of the witnesses and troublesome team members among others.
