What is a one correlation between health and ecology?

There exist great synergies between the ecosystems and human health. The core of ecological thinking and the natural ecosystem is the human health and related environment. There are cause and effects relationships between environmental exposures and their impacts on human or the community’s health. This means that in the field of ecohealth, human health and the wellbeing are significant consequences of effective ecosystem management. Human health is made by the individuals within the circumstances of their daily life where people live, work and even play (Brown, McLafferty & Moon, 2010).

Hazardous waste (chemicals) finds their way to the environment through several natural or through anthropogenic activities and leads to harmful impacts of human health and affects the environment negatively. The increased use of fossil fuels in the last decades caused a shift in the atmospheric air composition. Some of the air pollutants  include arbon monoxide (CO), sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), ozone (O3), heavy metals, and respirable particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10) (Tzivian & Schikowski, 2015).  These pollutants are diverse in their chemical composition, reaction capabilities and time of disintegration as well as the capability to diffuse over a long or short distance (Verrinder, Plant & La Trobe University, 2010).

These air pollutants cause both severe and long-lasting impacts on the health of humans where it affects different organs body. Most of these diseases affect the respiratory system and the heart. They cause upper respiratory irritation to chronic respiratory and heart disease, lung cancer, acute respiratory infections in children and chronic bronchitis in adults, exasperating pre-existing heart and lung disease, or asthmatic attacks (Harver & Kotses, 2010).  Furthermore, environmental pollution causes high mortality rate and lowers the life expectancy.

In conclusion, it is very clear that understanding the ecological setup of a place is important in determining the health of the people in that ecosystem.
