Instructions:
Each student will individually draft a briefing report to the CEO of their chosen organisation. You will take the role of an expert consultant to write the briefing report which will be a formally structured business communication. You will need to analyse the issues and propose theoretical and practical approaches to leading further change.
The purpose of the briefing report is to clearly and effectively communicate the core change issues that need attention in your chosen organisation to bring about effective change. The briefing report should be informed by change concepts, theories and frameworks.
The finished report should inform the CEO of the issues that they need to focus on and explain why.
The reports should be submitted via turnitin through the course blackboard site.
BRIEFING PROCESS:
Your report will need to address the following:
- Accurately brief the CEO of the change issues you identify and justify your findings;
- Present the brief as a written business report;
- Use appropriate theory, concepts and frameworks to support your analysis, where relevant and
- Submit by the due date and time via turnitin

Purpose and Background / Context |
Concise statement of the purpose of the report which includes a theoretically-informed summary of what the reader needs to know in order to appreciate what is to be discussed in the following section |
Assists the reader to identify what the report is about. You are providing the reader with a logical organisation of the symptoms and causes of the less-than-optimal effectiveness within the organisation |
Approx. 25% |
This is your executive summary. Although theory informs the summary, reference to theory is needed but not examined in depth. It will essentially be a type of ‘presenting problem’ section in which the author undergoes a symptomatic and causative analysis in order to lead to the identification of core issues to be analysed in the next section |
Central Issues |
An analysis of the key issues to be brought to CEO’s attention, under separate sub-headings |
Allows the reader to immediately identify issues and the relationship between them |
Approx. 35% |
Again, theory informs the analysis but no extensive coverage of theory is used in the actual writing. Don’t identify too many issues-Therefore, prioritise the issues and gauge which are most important to achieve the desired outcome |
Consideration / way forward |
Here you will provide advice on priority actions based on your prior assessment |
You provide the reader with theoretically-informed way forward /recommendations etc |
Approx. 25% |
You put forward your argument to support your prioritisation. Again, theory informs this advice. |
