This final proposal provides a detailed plan to construct a Paper Log Housing development at Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh, which should accommodate 50 families with about 200 people in the respective locality. This proposal of the project is dependent on the principle of providing basic necessities of 200 people who were affected by natural calamities, with better livelihood including health and safety. To develop this paper log housing more like a residential centre than to make it a flood relief centre is the major part of our strategies. Also, to provide better waste management, washrooms and administrative building which includes kitchen, central eating refectory and gathering space/administrative block are included in our plan. This proposal of housing development is to be set as the best example which will serve people who have been affected to natural calamities like earth quake, tsunamis and floods.

 

The main aim of using bamboo as a major construction material in this project is because, bamboo
is mainly known as poor man’s timber, it is a perennial grass which can be found mostly in tropical areas and shockingly the strength of bamboo can outperform the steel in elasticity. Moreover, in Bangladesh bamboo is a majorly used material for construction. The world’s strongest plant is more sustainable in nature and can be used for construction which is environmentally friendly with minimum wastage. Bamboo is extremely good in its insulation properties and almost acts as a resistant material for various purposes.

• To provide a more secure housing development in the midst of nature changes.
• Building durable long-lasting structures that will be strong under their living conditions

Although the exact time for various victims will stay in the camp is not known, it is essential to consider and construct dwelling units which will efficiently accommodate the targeted population without piling pressure on the available amenities. Thus, this project is estimated to house about 200 people include the children and the aged persons. However, specific needy causes which may require particular attention also considered in the project scope and thus, ten dwelling units will be allocated the persons living with the disability. Working with a target of 200 people will ensure that there is the sustainable use of the available resources in the area and thus, no stress impacts on the available facilities. This project mainly utilizes bamboo materials in the construction work and will hasten the victims by creating for them a small community in which they can interact, get medical care as well as house them temporarily in the likely event that the catastrophic occur.

In essence, there is designing of the learning units and classrooms to ensure that there is a continuous learning exercise for the victims' on-going school persons. Thus, about five units have been proposed in terms of the classrooms for the on-going school persons. These units have been being decisively divided into classes as follows

1. Classroom-1: (4- 6) years
2. Classroom-2 (7-14) years

• Classroom-3 (15-18) years

1. Classroom-4 (18 and above) years
2. Classroom-5 (special needs unit)

Also, a common library with a carrying capacity of about 50 students will be included in the schooling and classroom aspect. Thus, the diagram below used in the process to show the outlook and overview of the class

 The classes are expected to have a total carrying capacity of 50 students, and there are two units for each division including the persons living with a disability. This consideration is critical to ensure that learning process is taken care of but at the same time, there is no stress pressed on the existing and available amenities. Thus, this will hasten and enhance the sustainable use of the available resources in the camp as a whole.

Toilets and Bathing Units

The bathing units, as well as the toilets, are also essential and viable facilities which must be included in the design work as far as the project is concerned. In the designing of the elements, the fundamental assumption which preferably used is that that for every three housing units there is one bathing unit and a toilet. It is essential to ensure that the hygiene and health of the persons living in the camp are taken into consideration in the process (Georgescu and Pomonis 2011 p.21).

Administration

Cooking, Eatery and Dining Halls

            Designated areas and places are also set aside for cooking eating as well as dining areas for various people living in this camp. Indeed, cooking areas for family units have established for every five housing units. This cooking unit is fully equipped and finished with a cooker and kitchen cabinets for storing the kitchen staff and the cooked food. They are fitted with locks and assigned to every family house for security purposes.  On the other hand, there is a specially designed cooking area for the persons living with the disability. In fact, the camp director should employ various staffs to do the cooking on their behalf and serve them at the designated eateries in line with schedules programs in the camp (Peacock et al. 2018 p.220)

Support Centres

 Also, the proposal includes the designing of the support centers which will offer various programs to the victims in the camp. The area for the support services mainly established to be 12m by 20m and thus, total to 240m2. This includes the space office and the hall for hosting various mentorship programs as well as counseling sessions for the multiple persons living in this camp. (Alarslan, Kemper and Altan  2011).

Project Construction and Management

The construction activities for this dwelling units and amenities are meant to take bamboo materials as the main raw ingredient. Moreover, in this design work, the project manager is mandated to conduct the overall coordination and supervision and is solely responsible for the completion of the activity within the specified time. Taking the role of the project manager in this task, I will ensure that all the aligned activities are adequately reviewed and the process conducted as the stipulation and within the outlined timeframe. I will also ensure that quality and set standards are adhered to in the process, and all the aspects regarding the same put into action.  

In essence, planning and the overall management is a vital aspect and phase as far as the project work is concerned. Work schedule planning in the project helps in ensuring that all the outlined elements of the project meet the required standards and also assists in completing the work proposed with the set budget and stipulated time frame. Preferably, the correct and accurate organization of the staffs working in the project is as another critical aspect which must be considered in this project (Maly 2018 p.210).

As the project manager, I will organize the staffs using various departments such the logistics, supply, construction, and engineering works among others with the aim of ensuring that there is smooth running of all the outlined activities. Furthermore, I will set the various roles as well as the related responsibilities to be performed at the departmental levels. Notably, each department will have assigned coordinator and supervisor and all the staffs working under the umbrella will have to report and take instructions from them. Moreover, the below activities are some of the activities which I will perform as the project coordinator in line with this construction proposal for the area. They include:

• Lead as well as assisting in the management of the project team
• Assist in planning, managing and supervising the desirable regarding the proposed project
• Organize and ensure that the entire crew is working together
• Also monitoring all the project related activities, designing the progress evaluation as well as assisting in making all the decisions in line with the plan

The device is overly used when there is a need for cross cutting of bamboo that has a diameter ranging from 2-3 cm. Bow saw consists of steel blade that has varying length. The module is usually connected to the Bow where it is securely tightened enabling it to be used for cutting Bamboo (Bintoro, Barus and Pamungkas 2017). 

 

The budget is prepared as per design provided for 50 houses in Cox’s bazar, a town on the
southwest coast of Bangladesh. The budget is calculated as per 2014 unit per square metre rate
in Bangladesh. From the design, facilities including bathing and toilet areas, central kitchen,
gathering space, central eating are calculated and the costs are assumed per/m2 as 265 AUD
which is taken from a number of finished projects in Bangladesh over the years.
