Obsession: An obsession is a thought which comes in mind of an individual constantly and unable to control. The example of obsession is hand washing repeatedly and turning a lamp on and off continuously
Auditory hallucination: The example of auditory hallucination are feeling of taste, seeing someone and hearing which is not in real. Believing that one is being hounded by demons is indication of hallucination.
Compulsion: Compulsion is being done in distressing situations. A combination of predisposition develops the disorders in human being which develops the stressful situation in life circumstances. The example of compulsion is repeating the words again and again.
What are some of the issues pertaining to deciding what is normal vs. abnormal?
Normal behavior is acceptable by the society while abnormal behaviors are not considered by society. Abnormal behavior associated with personal distress, disability or dysfunction. Personal distress comes under abnormal disorder while normal people are not victim of any disorder (Ata, et. al., 2010).
What psychological disorder does Jacob have?
Jacob has specific phobia because he is getting afraid from specific object that is spider. These symptoms can be explained by a behavioral psychologist.
Behavioral psychologist uses theories to modify the behaviors of patients and describe this issue through relating his behavior and assumption. Along with behavior theory he uses behavior therapy to treat depression, mental illness and substance abuse. Behavioral therapy helps Jacob to remove out from unhealthy behavior and fear.
Psychodynamic psychologist focuses on conscious and unconscious desires and beliefs of Jacob and treats by using interpersonal therapy.
A cognitive psychologist believes that it is due to irrational belief.
