Surveillance and reporting of diseases enables the public to classify and count the trends of diseases across the reporting jurisdiction.

The NNDSS  (The National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System ) staffs work in close association with state and the local health departments, experts from the council of state and territorial Epidemiologists, to manage the local outbreaks of any infectious disease (www.cdc.gov, 2017). They work in close collaboration to develop tools and technologies for ensuring a proper disease reporting system throughout the state. Whenever a health care professional identifies a disease, it is mandatory to report the disease to the state and the territorial jurisdiction. The notifiable disease then should be reported to the CDC by the state and the territorial jurisdiction (www.cdc.gov, 2017).

A disease registry is a set of information regarding a particular type of diseases. Disease registries gather information about people having a particular clinical condition. Information is supplies to the registries by the individuals on a voluntary basis. (Jensen et al., 2012). These registries serve as the information tank for the researchers investigating on a particular disease. Disease registries have always helped to understand the trend of a particular disease. It is already known that the pathophysiologies of certain diseases are getting complex with time due to reasons like antigenic shift. These in turn are boasting chances of bioterrorism or biological war (Jensen et al.,2012).   

Disease registries help the scientists to keep a track of the progression of a disease or to check the remission of any infectious diseases. This type of public health surveillance system like disease registries can help in preventing and controlling infectious diseases and injury (Jensen et al.,2012). Surveillance can directly measure what is going on inside the population. Health registries can also be helpful in taking future health initiatives considering the gravity of the situation.
