Introduction

Human resource management plays a significant role in the organization, because it helps the management to execute the organizational policies and get expected results. But the issues related to the human resources affect the business policies of the organization (Paauwe 2004). In this context, this paper will discuss about human resource management of Huntsman Hotels, PLC with the help of Task 1 that has two sections. First section (A) presents a memo to Managing Director in the context of the need for changes in HR policies to address employees’ issues. Second section (B) presents the job advertisement for a new deputy hotel manager for the hotel.

Huntsman Hotels, PLC has faced the issues related to the poor reputation among the labour market in the UK. Because of this, several times, there is less availability of the managerial employees to manage the organizational services in an effective manner. Further the organization is facing critical issues due to the higher turnover of the staffs especially in the concern of the senior management team. To get your attentions towards the issues related to employees, there are some important issues which should have to resolve as soon as possible in the context of the international venture of the hotel otherwise the your dream related to open new hotels outside UK market may not be achieved. In this context, following are three key issues related to the human resources that need to make changes in HR policies of the organization:

Low morale of employees:

Due to the organizational structure, the morale of the employees is very low. According to Boxall & Purcell (2011), low morality affects performance of employees negatively. On the other hand, the top management authority of the organization does not like to take the accountability towards the policies and strategies and treat the managerial level employees wrongly for every kind of decision that does not get success. Further, there is a fear among the managerial employees of the organization related to the security of their jobs. It means they do not know when they can be fired for which reason. Due to this issue, it can be said that the managerial employees are not in the position to make any decision in favor of the organization because of their fear level that needs to make changes in the HR policies of the organization. Only the changes in the HR policies related to the accountability of the managers towards their decisions. The changes in HR policy should also define what their responsibility is and what should have to achieve in the context of organization (Brewster, Mayrhofer & Morley 2006). There is also a need to improve the morale of the employees to hold their services to the organization effectively.

Poor workplace environment:

The workplace environment of the hotel is not effective in the term of an employee. For example, the centralized decision making system of the organization is also restricted the managers by making sudden decisions related to the customers and other operational employees. Further, the time waiting process to make any decision does not only affect the functioning power or managerial power of the managers but also create various issues related to the emp0loyees. On the other hand, there are some lawsuits against the hotel due to the discrimination and other irregularities that has also created economic loss to the organization but also damaged its reputation and goodwill in the market. Further the poor working environment also creates the big issues about the performance of the employees. Due to this, the skilled employees of the hotel may not perform their full efforts to the service of the customers in a more productive manner.

Poor managerial experience of managers:

As per your dream, there is a planning to acquire the new hotels outside of UK. To implement this decision in the more effective and successful manner, there should be a large force of managers who can manage the entire business operations in the interest of the Huntsman Hotels, PLC.  But it is not an easy task through the help of existing managers of the organization. For instance, the business operation of the hotels in France needs the knowledge of their local culture, language and customer behavior. If a manager is fully aware of the culture and regulations of the target country then they can manage the businesses in a more profitable manner (Parry, Stavrou & Lazarova 2013). Otherwise the lack of the knowledge may create big issues in the hotel that affects the survival of the organization in the target market.

Policy to Change Human Resource Management and Address the Employee Resistance

As per the above HR related issues, it can be said that there is a need for some changes in the HR practices of the organization that will help managers to address the above issues in an effective manner (Hendry, 2012). Followings are some policy that will lead changes in the human resource management of the Huntsman Hotels, PLC:

Training and development:

To ensure the high productivity of the employees, the organization should have to provide regular training to employees and management related to the behavior of customers, different cultures and languages that will help to develop a new workforce which can help them to address the needs of each customer (Wright & McMahan, 2011). With the help of this, the employees can provide the best treatment to customers. This change will also address the employee's resistant towards the change because it will only focus on the improvement in their personal performance.

Morale Improvement:

Huntsman Hotels, PLC, should offer monetary and other type of the benefits to the employees that will include reward for best performance, promotions and career growth with the facilitates related to health, education and other types of the benefits to the employees of the organization (Storey 2007). As a result, they will feel morally supports and try to perform their best effort during the performance of their jobs with responsibilities. This change will also encourage employees to favor the changes at the workplace because this policy will fulfill their social and personal needs (Storey 2007).

Changes in Decision Making Process:

The organization should have to transfer the non-financial decision making rights to managers and first line hotel staffs to ensure the quick services related to customers to them. The organization should also have to change the policies related to communication between the management and employees. With the help of two way communication, they can change the workplace environment and can be able to perform their jobs as per the needs of customers along with the organizational goals (Alexandreou, Bartle & Holmes 2013). As a result, employees will feel responsible and may not show their resistance because decision making will help them to improve their position in the hotel.

Deputy Hotel Manager ensures that all staff members of the hotel are available to serve the customers and monitor their performance as per the guidance of the senior hotel managers. Deputy Manager must have to coordinate various activities and is responsible for the performance of the hotel, meet the standards related to quality along with wealth of Hotel.
