MGMT20140-Article Analysis on Design Thinking

One of the main objectives of the authors, in this article, is to attach hypothetical approach towards the question, “What implications does design thinking have on the professional development of the individuals?” For fulfilling the objective, the author takes into consideration the demographic literature. In this literature review, different sources of design thinking get highlighted (Johansson, Woodilla & Çetinkaya, 2013). These sources are books, journals and social media. Wide ranging connotations of design thinking addresses the identified question. By comparing the different connotations of design thinking, the authors attempt to present its wider applications in the personal and professional spheres.  Future prospects towards design thinking broaden the scope and arena of authors. The future implications establishes positive connotation towards the identified question (Johansson, Woodilla & Çetinkaya, 2013). 

New, unique or creative ideas

The concept of “designerly thinking” is an innovative idea proposed by the authors of the article. The aspect is perceived from the perspective of the designer, who incorporates creative thinking for achieving perfection in his thought process. Theory and practice into design thinking adds to the conventional notion of the improving the professional skills (Johansson, Woodilla & Çetinkaya, 2013). The authors propose that scholars need to treat the design thinking discourse as an “anecdote” rather than empirical knowledge upgradation. Here, the designers are the managers, who apply design thinking in their approach. The authors propose that abstract level thinking helps in the properly designing the thought process. Conscious approach towards this beautification enhances the creativity of the managers, bestowing upon them innovative ideas for solving the problems (Liedtka, 2015). Here, competence is crucial in terms of applying the appropriate design. This competence is one of behavioural aspects, which comes with maturity and learning. Eagerness and willingness towards designing leads the individuals towards perfectionists (Yeager et al., 2016). Evaluation is needed in terms of assessing the effectiveness of the designs in terms of the identified goals and objectives.

Future prospect towards design thinking

According to the opinions of Johansson, Woodilla & Çetinkaya, (2013), there have been previous researches on design thinking; therefore, innovative ideas would be helpful for the researchers, intending to work on this topic in future. Prior knowledge and experience would enhance the maturity. In the workplace, design thinking can be used for solving critical problems. The personnel can use design thinking for upgrading the standards and quality of their performance (Liedtka, 2015). This would be one of the agile strategies towards maintaining pace with the competitive ambience. Design thinking can be made a global phenomenon for achieving success in business. For this, a creative methodology needs to be applied.

As per the propositions of Theguardian.com, (2018), Internet can be one of the parameters for design thinking. This has revolutionized the business scenario largely. Man-made designing into this perspective would be a scientific wonder, setting apart the businesses from the contemporary brands.  

In the field of logistics, artificial intelligence into design thinking would be advantageous in terms of maintaining the supply chain. Design thinking can also be used for envisioning the future of the businesses. It would be a kind of mapping the business for estimating the path through which the operations would be conducted (Theguardian.com, 2018). System thinking would be an innovative source for upgrading the learning. This is in terms of the machines and systems, bestowing innovative ideas for enhancing the preconceived knowledge, skills and expertise (Liedtka, 2015).
