· It has operations in various countries; however, it is challenging for them to manage their global operation efficiently · They are deep into the various kind s of services; however, it is challenging for them to manage all the services efficiently |
Opportunities |
Threats |
· Company can expand to some potential international centres; however, the expansion would demand the consideration of various such sites that are banned in the United Arab Emirates · There are various potential markets that are not yet touched such as the United States of America and the European countries · Newest technologies such as 5G and others need to be considered because other companies in different countries have already considered the various different technological advancements |
· Competitor companies in different countries are getting ahead of Etisalat because those companies are flexible with the changing nature of customers · Controversial strategies such as the banning of Anti-Islamic websites, Adultery sites etc. and the pushing for a software update in the BlackBerry phones |
The Etisalat Company is widely popular in the United Arab Emirates and the other Middle East countries. However, the popularity of the company is challenged by its certain outdated strategies, which is not feasible with the international platform. The company is already operating in Asia, Africa and the Middle East countries. However, the highly increasing number of users of mobile phones at the global platform has created urgency for the company that it considers some international platform as well. Nevertheless, some strategy related problem might ruin the expansion of the company at the international platform. To expand their business to some other international locations Etisalat needs to be flexible with the demands of each location related to the content showing on its network. Nonetheless, the company had banned the showing of adultery and anti-Islamic websites on its network in the Middle East countries.
PESTLE analysis
Political |
Economy |
· It has no such political parties · They have their participation at the international politics · Politics of the country does not harm any business, it rather supports those (Baylis, Owens & Smith, 2017) |
· The economical transformation of the country is a result of increasing number of oil exports (El Mallakh, 2014) · Relies heavily on the tourism and the commerce sector · Participation of foreign workers is high; however, they are allowed in the country for a restricted time span · Financial hub as it is a centre for free trade that attracts many foreign investors (El Mallakh, 2014) · Real estate is under high development, which is evident from some of its landmark developments such as Burj Khalifa and Palm Islands (El Mallakh, 2014) · An open economy that does not provide any barrier to trades |
Social |
Technology |
· Has high participation of various different ethnic groups who come from various corners of world such as from the Asian countries for doing job (Kargwell, 2012) · Foreign employees have hard times in the country as they have no freedom to express their desire · Dubai unlike other Middle East countries is liberal in terms of social factors such as covering of head for women, consumption of alcohol etc. (Kargwell, 2012) |
· Investments are made on improving the technology such as the Fly Emirates and Dubai, which are one of the largest airlines in the global world (Shahbaz et al., 2014) · Dubai airport is the busiest airport in the world · Technological advancements such as the development of some apps that suggest attractive places to visit have also helped the country develop its tourism sector (Shahbaz et al., 2014) |
Legal |
Environmental |
· UAE is claimed to be the safest country in the world because the crime rate in this country is 0% (Forstenlechner, Rutledge & Alnuaimi, 2012) · Western clothes are allowed but exposure of skin is not allowed at the public places; however, rules at the beach are less strict but topless bathing is still prohibited (Forstenlechner, Rutledge & Alnuaimi, 2012) · Anti-Islamic activities are highly restricted in the country (Forstenlechner, Rutledge & Alnuaimi, 2012) · Taking pictures without any prior permission is highly prohibited (Forstenlechner, Rutledge & Alnuaimi, 2012) |
· Numerous construction works have hampered the environmental aspects of the country as it is struggling to avail clean drinking water (Mazumder, 2016) · The carbon dioxide emission from the desalination plants is another major issue, which is polluting the environment (Mazumder, 2016) |
The economy of the country is becoming stronger because of exporting of oil. Significant investments have been made on the technological advancements, which are highly evident in the numerous construction works. It is highly dependent on the tourism and the commerce sector; however, it imposes certain restrictions on the tourists such as taking photographs of the places without any permission. The political activities are supportive to the various development works.
Impact of internal and external environment
The highly favouring political and legal rules have supported the flourishing of Etisalat Company in the United Arab Emirates and in the other Middle East countries. The interest of the country to go for investments on technological advancements has also supported the growth of the Etisalat Company. The operational strategies of the Etisalat Company such as banning of certain adultery websites has not affected their business in the UAE and the other Middle East countries. However, they can never leverage the flourishing opportunities at the global platform because of their conservative strategies as such.
