Aim

The aim of the research is to find out the issues and challenges that would be faced by the project manager in order to implement Energy efficient approach in the Sarawak State Building.

Objectives of Research

Setting an objective is very important for any project. The main objectives of the research are

• To identify the problems faced by the project manager.
• To find out the impact of the challenges on the overall outcome.  
• To recommend strategies to resolve the issuesfaced.

Justification for Research Problem

This research is being carried out in order to find out the issues faced by project manager in the implementation of energy efficient project in Sarawak State Government Building. Energy efficient projects are the ones that help in maintaining the sustainability of the environment. One of the challenges faced by the project is Cost; most of the projects that aim in applying energy efficient tolls do not get enough investment (Trianni, Andrea and Enrico et al. 2014). Energy efficient projects on buildings involve a very high budget which is not always affordable by the project members or organizations. One more challenge includes lack of knowledge; implementing energy efficient project in a building also involves trained workers who can help in installing the tools of energy efficiency, the users must also know the usage of such tools. Limited trained human resources also act as a challenge in this project (Trianni, Andrea and Enrico et al. 2014). There is limited trained human resource available for the implementation of this project.

Operational Definition

The purpose of the study is to find out the challenges faced by a project manager in implementing energy efficient approaches to the Sarawak State Government Building

• Energy efficient approach: Energy efficient approaches are those that are implemented in order to maintain sustainability of the environment. Some of the approaches are, using solar panels instead of electrical appliances that consume more electricity, look for an alternative if solar panels are not affordable, and reduce the emission of carbon dioxide.

Literature review

Economic challenges: The main challenges faced by the building in implementing energy efficient approaches include economic challenges; this is one of the major challenges that the industry faces (Napoli, Antonio and Marc et al., 2015). Most of the projects do not get enough economic support; in many cases organizations are not able to afford solar panels or other energy efficient appliances.

Technological challenge: One more challenge faced by this project is technological challenge. According to Ruparathna, Rajeev and Kasun (2016), the successful implementation of this project requires various technologies. These technologies should be present and professionals must have enough knowledge in order to use these technologies efficiently, employees should know the functioning of the used technologies and how they can attain benefits from it (Schulze, Mike and Henrik 2016). Every employee should have the knowledge to utilize these technologies. This requires training that should be provided to the employees.

Effectiveness of project: According to Ghaffour, Noreddine and Jochen (2015), one of the major challenges faced by the project would be the effectiveness of the project. In many cases, it has been found that buildings have implemented energy efficient approaches but they did not find it much effective. This is because besides implementing, it needs to be maintained as well (Ghaffour, Noreddine and Jochen et al. 2015). If this maintenance is not done properly, it would not be able to deliver desired results. This maintenance requires extra cost and it should be done on regular basis.
