MAN6925 Project Management: A Case Study | Problems Facing Uber

This is a case study project. The company is Uber. For this task need to identify an overarching problem to focus on.

Answer:

Uber is a highly innovative technological company primarily dealing with transportation. It was established and launched in 2009 by Travis Kalanick and Garret Camp. The company is based on a mobile phone interactive application whereby the drivers and the passengers get to interact and negotiate. Despite of its market success it has been embroiled in numerous problems since early 2017 such as poor treatment of employees within the organization, stealing of technological software from its competitor google and resignation of Travis kalanick (Nkwabi, 2018). These problems have influenced negatively on the market success of the technological company. However from the above it is clear that the chief problem facing uber is its persistent culture of dishonesty. This case study highlights on the overarching problem of uber and its possible solutions and recommendations.

Since inception Uber has been cultivating the culture of dishonesty. These dishonesty is depicted from uber refusing to be categorized as a transportation company. However, according to (Bershidsky, 2017) under the new CEO Khosrowshahi its big objective is to purchase 24000 self-driving Volvos to be owned by uber. This describes how uber is both a transportation company and a technological company since it owns both the cars and the technology used. Moreover uber has overtime been criticized for employing the use of grey ball software that ensured it was difficult for security personnel to book uber rides.

From the above it is clear that if Uber does not undertake regulatory measures it all operations would be compromised. Measures put should be objected at mitigating the culture of dishonesty within the uber company. One of the best recommended measures to undertake is to carry out an internal audit within the company to ensure that all the employees are working on achieving the main objective of the company.
