This assignment has three major aims:

• To help students gain a good understanding of all ITECH1102 theoretical and practical material.
• To encourage students to use content analysis summaries to prepare for tests, examinations and to help their understanding of theoretical concepts.
• To encourage students to conduct an independent investigation into networking related topics from books, the Internet and through practical investigation. 

Engagement with this assignment should help students to prepare for the laboratory test (10%) in week 7, the theory test (0%) in week 8 and the end of semester examination (60%).

Timelines and Expectations 

Students are required to analyse the weekly lecture material of topics 1 to 8, based on the classification given in (a) and create concise content analysis summaries of the theoretical concepts contained in the course lecture slides. The content analysis for each topic should not exceed approximately four (4) A4 sides of the paper if those topics content were printed. 

In addition, students need to complete the selected questions from the problem sheet associated with each week from 1 to 8, based on the classification given in (b). The selected questions from the problem sheet are given in Appendix A.  

• Each student is required to submit the content from three topics. The specific topics depend on your surname:

    Surnames starting with A - G     Topics 4, 6 & 8

    Surnames starting with H - Z     Topics 3, 5 & 7 

• Each student is required to submit the solution to the questions (see Appendix A) from the problem sheet from three topics. The specific topics depend on your surname:

    Surnames starting with A - G     Topics 3, 5 & 7

    Surnames starting with H - Z     Topics 4, 6 & 8 

Where the lab content or information contained in technical articles from the Internet or books helps to fully describe the lecture slide content, discussion of such theoretical articles or discussion of the lab material should be included in the content analysis ePortfolio.

Suggestions as to possible inclusions in your content analysis ePortfolio will appear in weekly Work Plan documents on Moodle. 

The ultimate aim of this assessment task is to help ITECH1102 students to fully comprehend the course material and hence help them to pass tests and the examination.Mahara ePortfolio

Students are required to create their content analysis and problem sheet documentation as an ePortfolio in Mahara. 

Each week’s topic should be on a separate ePortfolio page in order to separate the content into logical sections.

Answer:

In this week the topic of the discussion is the physical layer. The main objective of the physical layer is to creating the connection between the computer and the other machines that are on the same network (Nory et al., 2016). Two types of the data network are there one is the analog data another is the digital data. In the digital format the data are stored in the computers. The data which are stored in the digital computers are the audio, video, files, programs these all are stored as the digital data. The information of the digital data are made of one and zero.

There will be nothing between the one and the zero. The media of the transmission is also be of two types like analog and digital. For the connection with the machines that developed the digital data transmission, many type of cables are used. The presentation of the analog signal can be determined with the ones like where the zero bits are not present. Like sending the digital data on the transmission that is analog. The points to point circuit provide the direct connection with the devices. The media will not be shared with the other devices. The circuits that are multi point shares the media with the multiple devices.

In this category the lies the Ethernet systems those are using the hubs and the Wi-Fi. Because they are able to share the media with the other devices. There are three categories of the data flow simplex, half duplex and full duplex. Data sends in only one direction in the simplex data flow. The data flows in the both direction in the half duplex but at one time the data will flow in one direction. The data flow will be bidirectional means the data can be flow in the both direction concurrently. To establish the multiple conversations at a time the method of the multiplexing used.

            The multiplexing methods are following:

• FDM (Frequency division multiplexing)
• TDM (Time division multiplexing)
• WDM (Wavelength division multiplexing)

The digital transmission is established between the data sender and the data receiver. There are several properties that are applied so that the receiver is able to identify the data that is send by a particular user. Data encoding is the one of the properties that is set. The way like the bits are represented in the network media by that the encoding can be described (Lopez-Martinez Gomez & Garrido-Balsells 2015).
