Business case 

I am working as a junior support engineer in University of Melbourne where my roles and responsibilities are to monitor the network and troubleshoot the problems in better manner. In present in university I found that most of the students and staffs members faced problems such as slow responding application and slow network connection. Moreover when they started the computer then it shows it busy trying to connect network. Thus the symptom shows that university network is hacked by hackers using denial of services because in this attack attackers using the malicious node sending the message to the node and that consume high bandwidth of the network. The main objective of malicious node is to be busy the university network and slow down the application and network connection.  

The main problem of denial of service attack in network is to slow down the university processing and lost the important data. In addition to this in university, where there are multiple clients (including both staffs members and students) on this network, they suffered from the problems such as inability to reach particular website. Moreover, the network issues become more complicated because a trust problem can arise between the management and students. In addition to this the problem also impacts the usability of internet technology in most of the application software. Denial of service attack also accesses both students as well as staffs member’s personal information and steals them for its own purpose. The main problem is listed below;

• inability of access any website
• unusually slow down the network performance
• unavailability of university website   

In denial of service attack, a hackers accessing all personal information or services of university and trying to use them for person propose. Therefore to solve or to address this attack in primary phase university not only secure their personal data and information but also safe its staffs and students members personal information. As per the data protection act, it is the prime and foremost reponsiblteis of the university is to protect student or staffs members data and information; thus to solve this issues in vital manner not only secure their information but also achieve better client satisfaction. To solve this issue the conflicts problems also solves that arises between the management and students. Accessing of the information and data from the database is fast manner and that directly helps the organization to increase its performance in better manner.  

Universality is the main sectors who fully benefited with this solutions because if they able to solve the network issues in better manner then they its information such as student or staffs information, financial information etc in vital manner. Student and staffs members are others individuals who effectively benefited from this solutions.   

A denial of service is the network attack use by the attackers to disable the server from servicing its customers. As in present ear, internet become more ubiquitous, the threats of DOS becomes more important and realistic for business, university and even countries. The present report is discussed about the network issues arise in the University of Melbourne. In order to determine the impact of network problems within the university survey procedure is used. 30 respondents are selected in this study that helps to determine which type of Problems University presently suffered. The findings and analysis shows that approximately 60% respondents are not happy with the university internet services. The finding shows that users are not access their information and data from the server that indicates that university suffered from the DOS attack. Use of IDS, farewell and SSL helps the university to solve present problems in better manner.  

As per the business case study, it has been seen that University of Melbourne presently suffered from the denial of service attacks and this hamper not only their performance but also reduce clients satisfaction. The main purpose of this report is to evaluate the organization problems and identifying effective solutions. In order to conduct the report in effective manner data collection procedures has been concluded. At last the report will concluded the findings with better recommendation.             

Conducting the project

In order to conduct the report and find the problem in better manner random sampling techniques and data collection procedures are implemented. To gather information in accurate and reliable manner 30 staffs are selected that helps to provide their opinion regarding which problem they are currently faced in university.  In order to find the problems, surveys with quesionarries procedures have been implemented that helps them to fulfill the objective in better manner. During the data collection process researcher implements all academics norms and data protection act also that shows that research is conducted in accurate manner.

Analysis and synthesis

A denial of service attack is done by the attackers on a network for purpose of disable a server from servicing its customers. In this process attackers send million of requests to server for purpose of slow down the network and flooding a server with huge amount of data to sending client request with invalid IP address. As per the network analysis it has been seen that presently university suffered from then network problems and due to this they also suffered from the conflict problems with members and student. From the analysis of the data it has been seen that most of the respondents i.e. 67 %work in the university above than 3 years. When researcher ask the question to respondent regarding do you suffered from the accessing different website problems, network performance problems and accessing and retrieving the data from server problems then all of them are replied in positive manner. From the analysis it has been seen that 40% and 37% respondent said that they are not effectively able to access information from the university servers. Moreover, 60% and 57% respondents out of total respondent replied that they presently suffered from the accessing website problems and network performance problems. Some of the person says that when they trying to access information through network then network error problems shows in their screen.

From the findings information through customers and the analysis of the present scenario it has been said that attackers using volume i.e. network based attacks using denial of service attack. The main objective of this attack is to hamper the network performance of the organization and accessing the personal information of users from the server. A denial of services is sending huge information of the site of web server with many requests that it become not available for users and from the analysis approximately above than 60% said that they are not able to access website properly. So that this information reveals that university is suffered from the denial of service attack problems by attackers. Moreover, hackers using denial of service attack for purpose of accessing vital information from the servers and from the data collection it has been found that users mainly suffered from the accessing and retrieving information from the university servers.  

Conclusion     

From the finding and analysis it is concluded that university suffered from the denial of service attacks. The above discussion shows that due to network Attack University suffered from the several problems such as accessing website, retrieving data and information problems etc. The analysis and findings also shows that the staff’s members presently not satisfied with the university internet services and faced major problems. Therefore from the findings it has been suggested that university needs to implement secure socket layers, Dual firewall techniques and intrusion detection techniques. Moreover, it is suggested that university needs to update antivirus in regular basis and implement IPS system in its network in effective manner.
