Business Need

Integrating a Web Reservation System in Flight Centre assist in easy and simple maintenance of the passenger and flight information but is associated with various problems. The Web reservation system has increased the cost and increased the online traffic for the airline that required high end technology for maintenance. The integration of Global Distribution System, assist in proper and efficient maintenance of the all reservation system from various airlines. The integration of the Global Distributive System helps in managing all the reservations systems with data sharing facilities for achieving greater efficiency.

Business Objective

Business objective of implementing web reservation system in flight center is increasing the accuracy, usability, efficiency, effectiveness and speed of the whole procedure of booking flight tickets. Latest technology is to be used in order to implement the project successfully. The design of the web-based system should be based on IATA and ICAO standards, as it is the key requirement of the airline operation industry.

Project Description 

The project deals with the up gradation of the traditional reservation system to a new and improved reservation system, the global distribution system.

Project Objectives and Success Criteria

The objectives of building this automated web reservation system are as follows-

• This reservation system will be open 24/7 – this increases the span of the booking hours beyond the normal office hours. This is beneficial to both customer and the company. Passengers can book ticket anytime by using this web reservation system.
• It will reduce the workload by ensuring the automatic update of the booking availability to the customers and controlling the whole booking procedure. Moreover, the online payment option reduces the workload even more. Online payment procedure is simple and hassle free for the users as well.

The success criteria of the project are as follows-

• Developing the new system within the estimated date and as soon as possible
• Listing the lists of hardware and software requirements according to the allocated budget within 30 days, in order to complete the up gradation within the stipulated time
• Website should contain all the features of a good global distribution system such as visual calendar, PayPal and credit card payment options, currency and language settings and real time booking.

Project Requirement

The project must meet the following list of requirement in order  to achieve success –

• The new system should be implemented without disrupting the traditional system of flight reservation
• The system should involve a feedback path for the customers
• The transaction in the system should be confidential and the credit or debit card information of the customer should be secured with proper encryption.

Project Constrains

The following constraints pertain in the implementation of the GDS

• Quality- whether the product meets the expected specifications
• The project should not exceed the allocated budget
• The new system should run in parallel with the traditional system of flight reservation

Project Assumptions

The following are the lost of assumptions in relation to the implementation of the GDS –

• The project will have the full support of the sponsors, stakeholders and the customers
• The project manager will provide additional resources if necessary. Necessary resource includes time as well.
• The purpose of the project will be communicated prior to the implementation of the new system.

Project Scope

The project will include the designing, testing and deployment of the new web reservation system for booking flight tickets. The project management team will manage all the resource requirements. The project work should be independent of the daily operation, which is the traditional reservation system. The project manager will manage the project funding and any additional requirement would need approval of the sponsors. The project will conclude only after successful completion of the testing and documentation steps.
