ICT703 Network Technology and Management - Free Samples to Students
When developing a plan, it is often easier to start at the end user and then work back toward the network and any shared resources, and then finally, any external connections to the Internet or other networks. Many different forms have been developed to help with planning and equipment selection. It is a good idea to use one of these forms or to design your own to keep everything organized.
Activity 1
Use the following form to develop a proposed computer system for each of the specific uses, i.e.,general use, graphics production and film production. Search the Internet or local sources for availability and pricing information. Use the same form to propose a server that can support their email and FTP requirements. After the end-user systems have been selected, it is time to look at the workflow and decide on any shared components and network technology to support this workflow. This can include such things as shared printers, scanners, and storage as well as any routers, switches, access points and integrated service routers. When planning a network infrastructure, always plan into the future. For larger companies, because it is usually a substantial investment, the infrastructure should have a lifetime of about 10 years. For smaller companies and home users, the investment is significantly less and change occurs more frequently.
Activity 2
Using the Internet and locally available resources, select a high-speed, color copier/printer for the CAC offices. Provide supporting details to justify your selection.
Activity 3
Demonstrate a network layout for CAC requirements – you can use Figure 3 as the starting point. Because the company has limited funds available for this project, it is important that where possible only equipment designed for the small business and home markets be used. Provide supporting details to justify your selection of each equipment type, e.g., access points, switches and routers.
Activity 4
It is necessary to plan the Internet connectivity, and which services are provided by the ISP and which services must be provided in-house. Larger companies usually provide services in-house, while small businesses and individuals normally rely on an ISP to provide these services. Most ISPs offer a variety of services and service levels. Selecting an ISP is complicated, and not all technologies and services are available in all regions of the world.
Using the Internet, research alternative local ISPs to provide connectivity for CAC. If selected, CAC will rely upon this ISP for DNS and web mail. The ISP must also provide 99.999% uptime for access to the internal FTP/email server. Because you are the only IT person at CAC, it is also important that the ISP provides a high-level of technical support. Create a comparison worksheet for at least two local ISPs, including costing.
Activity 5
Which internal services must be offered by CAC, and which devices provide these services? Provide supporting details to justify your answer.
Activity 6
Complete the following network planning form and justify your answers as it relates to the proposed CAC network.
Activity 7
Equally as important as planning the physical layout of the network and equipment is planning the logical layout. This includes such things as subnetting, addressing, naming, data flow, and security measures. Servers and network devices are assigned static IP addresses to allow them to be easily identified on the network and to also provide a mechanism for controlling access to these devices. Most other devices can be assigned addresses using DHCP. Note that both a server and its backup server must be accessed via the same public IP address.Devise subnetting and addressing schemes for CAC. The schemes must provide all network devices and servers with a static address and allow all other hosts to be configured via DHCP. Identify the ranges of useable IP addresses (and default gateways) for DHCP, and assign all network devices an appropriate IP address (and default gateways). Use the following tables to report all the required setups, and then reflect this information on the network layout developed in Activity 3.

At Sydney their offices communicates to an external router that is connected to the internet service provider, Brisbane is assigned an external router that is then connected to a server and a backup server which only is accessible to the managerial team. More so it’s connected to the four levels of the department that’s is the design and editing, marketing, advertising and photography. There both interlinked with the ISP that gives out the internetwork infrastructure for both to communicate. There also some access point that provide a Wi-Fi to some other devices besides machine, this basically works as a single entity that is usually connected to the router as a device.
Activity 4
One of the major ISP’s work is to connect given electronic devices to the internet. It’s the safest way for an organization to sign in and enroll to a ISP Service License Agreement and on this the backbone commodity that is needed to give internet access all through for 24 hours for 7 days in a week. In this region the3 major ISP, and their band width are.

Some of the internal Services that the company must offer for a complete ISP include:
Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) this has generally become one of the most widely speeded way to access the internet. I say this because it is able to cover a given area or a dedicated location set this is due to the ability of devices to access it.
Internet Access Technologies given a protocol suite it is able the exchange information and data.
Cable Internet which provides a high bandwidth cable to transmit internet to residential area. This is among the most preferred in the context.
Dial up Internet Access is highly regarded as old fashion because it is slow though it is simply the cheapest in the market.
Integrated Service Digital Network (ISDN). It ensures the conveyance of better communication and data transmission along a telephone line reducing information lost along the way.
Ethernet providing a transmission speed of up to 10Mbps and above
DSL (Digital Subscribed Loops) this is more similar to the Dial up technology only that this ensure Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL), this also allows the conveyance of internet and telephone on the same line.
Wireless Broadband (WiBB) this is the modest internet access technology allowing the conveyance of high speed internet within a large range area. It uses the microwave technology where there is the transmitter and the receiver on the other end. The waves are then demodulated and behold you have internet.
Activity 6
Are wired connection required? |
Yes, on some instance since someone on the network needs to share some huge files or save it to the server. |
Wireless standard? |
The level of the standard when it comes to cable should be a priority since it needs to be able to have a strong and manageable bandwidth and be able to transmit data in high frequency band of data and communicate easily within the network. |
Firewall Required? |
Yes, this is to be able to manage the inlet and outlet traffic and also secure the channel |
ISP connectivity required? |
Yes, so as for the internet service provider to be able to issue the internet to the company and be able to access it in the computer.
|
Type of ISP connectivity? |
Wireless (Wi-Fi) Cabling Ethernet Dial – up Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) |
Internal or external modem required? |
Internal is more required than the external , so as to finalize and establish a connection between the two ISP and computer |
Cable Required? |
Yes, Cat 6 is the most preferred since it is fast. |
Battery Backup Required? |
A backup generator is more appropriate since it automatically goes on when the lights goes off. |

There 2 types of IP
- static type it does not share nor change itself to hosting webpages or service every time it receives the internet
- Dynamic simply taken from a list of unidentified IP addresses and is able to change each time it accesses the internet.
Being assigned a private network simply means it has a reserved and dedicated working ip address range. By bringing the two together it will simply reduce overlapping and duplication of. Communication between private and public is quite different .in public network are able to be seen in public access machines while the private ones highly secure themselves behind certain firewalls restrictions.
Conclusion:
On such a network planning, the networking is clearly on to its best capability and is able to last for ages and ages, also the machines, are super machines and are able to withstand any challenges. In my conclusion all the departments are able to interact and share data and information.
