ICT703 Network Technology and Management for CAC Business Needs
Questions:
2. Demonstrate a network layout for CAC requirements – you can use Figure 3 as the starting point. Because the company has limited funds available for this project, it is important that where possible only equipment designed for the small business and home markets be used. Provide supporting details to justify your selection of each equipment type, e.g., access points, switches and routers.
Answer:
Project proposal needs
The major aim of this project proposal is specify a network plan to upgrade the existing network infrastructure for CAC. The major project deliverable is implement and design the overall network set-up of the firm which includes outlining an improved network design to support CAC firm’s expansion and growth plans.
CAC business needs
The following outlines the needs of the firm
- Upgrading the current organization IT resources
- Updating their current IT resources
- Proposing the best network structure.
Issues to be considered during network upgrade
When upgrading any network either for small or large organization, it is important to consider the four network design goals. First, Network designers should consider the future growth and expansion of the organization i.e. scalability. Second, when planning for any network upgrade the network designers should put security at the forefront. In here network designers plan for the location of switches, routers, and firewalls. Additionally, they should examine the appropriate intrusion detection systems that ought to implement. Third, network designer should ensure that when designing for network upgrade, the organization services should be always up and running even in the event of failure of one or two devices. Lastly, the network designer should ensure that the current CAC IT staff are able to manage and su
pport the network i.e. the network should be manageable by the current IT team members.

Activity 3: Network Layout
The best network structure that the organization can implement is a hierarchical network structure. A hierarchical network structure is a shown by figure 1 below
One of the advantages of adapting to this model is that if offers better performance, it offers better filtering, and better scalability. In addition, when one switch is down it does not affect other departments, in addition, with wireless connection, the organization can continue to operate with ease (Gardner, 2016).

Activity 8: Public and Private IP addresses
Public IP address are given by the organization ISP for accessibility of World Wide Web. The organization can use the IP address share files between the two offices i.e. Brisbane office and the Sydney office. The organization can use Private IP address as unique identification of the organization devices within its network. The organization can only use public IP address so as to prevent reflection based attacks. Private IP address can used by the organization to only share files internally thus preventing unauthorized access
Network security concerns
When an organization talk of network security concerns and plans they always need to focus need rather return on investment. Second, the organization should never assume network attacks. Another security concern is that an organization should develop and roll out security strategies with every employee in the organization. Additionally, one should not be tempted to confront security concerns with a piecemeal approach rather CAC should employ the use of a single and unified strategy which protects the whole network. Also, CAC should find balance between usability and security. This means that the more secure network the more it might be difficult to use. Lastly, CAC should develop a network plan which addresses acceptable policy, antivirus policy, remote access policy, identity policy, and password and encryption policies.
Risk controls
One of highest network risk is lack of a business continuity plan. When assets and devastated or when a disaster occurs, the company can go out of business. Second lack of insufficient polices can face high network risk example when company uses company facilities and email for personal matters, CAC company can pose security to the organization information. Lastly, making unauthorized change controls can affect the stability of a company.
The appropriate controls with network risks are having a well-raid business continuity plan and sufficient policies that govern the usage of company resources. Additionally, changes must be made in an authorized manner (Claise & Wolter, 2014).
Future network recommendations
When designing of an organization network which satisfies the need of large organization such as CAC, the design or the plan is more likely to be successful if a hierarchical design model is implemented. Compared to other topologies a hierarchical design is very manage, expand and one can be able to solve network problems quickly.
When implementing hierarchical it involves diving the network into three layers which are Access, distribution, and core layer. To upgrade the current cable design in future, I propose for Passive Optical Design (PON). This is a technology which involves using optical splitters to divide a single optical connection with an aim of serving multiple endpoints
Considering the network needs highlighted above, one can pass a single fiber from an Optical Line Terminal port in the main communication room in each floor and then split it off using 1:11 splitter using 11 different connections each into the 10 different connection. (Each connection holds 10 users) with an added one in case of expansion.
