ENGL001 English Composition I : Women of Color and Reproductive Justic
Answer:
Introduction:
Abortion is the process by which the fetus is removed from the uterus of the mother. Abortion is one of the most sensitive issues and controversial issues of this era. People have been debating on this particular topic whether abortion should be allowed or not. The spiritual leaders and religious leaders and many thinkers and philosophers have been raising their voice against Abortion while many others believe that it can be allowed. There are others who think it can be allowed in certain situations. According to some people, this evil should not be allowed at all, while there are some who think that under certain conditions abortion should be allowed. In the year 1973, the Supreme Cour
t has made Abortion legal in United States of America. People who support abortions, are termed as Pro-choice and those are against of it are termed as Pro-life (Smith and Andrea).
Discussion:
Abortion is an evil in every sense; the unborn child has equal rights to be born. Being the biological parents of a child does not give the authority to the parents to decide whether a child can live or not. It is the ignorance of the parents to think that killing an unborn child is not a murder. It is also a murder, because the fetus is very much alive, as because it is partly formed human being. Thinking that abortion is ok until the child is born is equally an evil thought. I many religious beliefs abortion is completely condemned. There are only few cases and scenarios when abortion should be allowed, like when there is certain problem for the mother to conceive the child, leaving health related issues, and abortion should not be justified. It is also argued that abortion should be allowed in the early stages of ten to twelve weeks. But, it is very difficult to determine in which stage does the fetus coverts into a mature baby (Rose and Melody).
Abortion has existed from the very beginning, and so has been this controversy, looking at this issue with religious point of view, it can be said, that only God has the right to take the lives of anyone, and this idea forms the base for this argument. It is justified too, if killing a person is a crime, then why not killing an infant is a crime, just because that infant is not born one cannot justify it. If the fetus had not been aborted, surely he would have born and grown in to a human being, so why should someone take away the right of unborn child to be born and live (Munson, Daniel and Williams).
Abortion is immoral, a war against unborn child, who cannot fight for himself and hence loses every time. It is also harmful for the mother as well because there a number of issues that is caused by abortion like, headache, nausea, pelvic pain and many others. Not wanting a child is definitely the choice of the parents, but killing an unborn child just because they do not want a child is not at all justified. Other preventive measures can be taken before if one does not want a child. Why should an innocent pay for the mistakes or negligence of his parents. It is illegal in many countries on moral grounds. Having own choices is good but, degrading to this level, where one has to kill a child for exercising their choices is very unfair. Freedom to have own choices in life cannot be applied everywhere, there are couple who are taking medical help just because they want to have a child they want to be parents. It is such a joy to listen to the sweet talks of a small child. Children are gifts of God and all are not luck enough to receive this gift so those who are blessed should not reject the blessings (Kaczor and Christopher).
In cases of complication in delivery of a child, often the mother is saved and the child is not, but on what grounds do the doctors and the parents decide who should live, the mother or the child, should not the doctor try to save both. Just because the child is yet to be born, he should die and the mother should live. How can this be determined who has more right to live, logically looking at this, mother has lived her life, but the child would not be able to live or see the world, so should not he be given an opportunity. But, this would be unfair knowingly killing the mother, so it is to the child therefore, the doctors should try to save both and not be biased and save any one between the two, they should try their best and see who survives, it might happen that both of them survives (Trumpy and Alexa). It cannot be decided who should live and who should not. It is really sad to see young people out of immaturity take hasty decisions in life, later when they realize their mistakes they again taken another decision to abort the child. The child should be born, everyone has one life, and the child will have only one chance to live. If the parents do not want the child, they can let other unprivileged parents to adopt the child and take care of the upbringing of the child. At least they can make sure that the child gets a proper upbringing (Freed and Alice).
Conclusion:
Abortion should be made illegal in all the countries, they should realize that even it is a homicide. The pro-choice people should think and look at this issue through the frames of humanity and not be blinded by their right and freedom to have their own choices, even the child has choices but is not able to fight for himself. Whether born or unborn it is a murder and everyone involved in this crime should be punished. Justifying it or fighting for this crime makes it look even worse; one cannot simply decide who has more right to live and who does not. People should be more careful while taking decisions in life and maturely think about consequences beforehand. If one is given choice
