Introduction
There exist three Australian professional standards, namely, Professional knowledge, Professional practice and Professional Engagement. The aim of this study is to focus on attaining the standard of professional knowledge. A primary school in Australia has been chosen and an analysis is being done keeping in mind the Australian standard of professional knowledge.
Context
The school that has been chosen to carry out the study is “Bonnyrigg Heights Primary School”, which is managed by the government of Australia.
Grade Level
The school has 1114 number of students approximately. It also has a wide range of responsible and enthusiastic staff. The name of the principal of “Bonnyrigg Heights Primary School” is Daryl McKay. This school also consists of a wide range of specialist teachers.
Special Features
The school offers learning of a wide range subjects starting from Creative Arts to Science and Technology. One of the special feature of the school is that in the website of the school it offers a wide range of fun games which drags the interest of the students and the entire learning process gets enhanced. Another very important and unique feature of the school is that the students of the school can get access to the library of the school from the website itself. That means a particular student can get access to the books of the school library anytime anywhere, even they can access it without visiting it in the school (Bonnyrigg Heights Primary School, 2018).

The focus area that is associated with this study is professional knowledge. In order to improvise the activities thereby acknowledging the standard, I should know the learning ability of the student which is followed by various activities including understanding the physical and social development of the student. The teaching strategies should be developed in such a way that it can help students speaking in different languages and following different cultures. Another wide activity which falls under Professional knowledge is that all the teachers should know the content of the subject and how it can be taught to the students (ATSL, 2017).
Areas of Strength
The current issue which is being faced by most of the students across the world is the active involvement of student in the learning process (Taylor and Parsons, 2011). I have the ability to design fun games that would help the student to learn various subjects in a fun manner. It will help the student to gain their interest on the subjects because most of the primary school students are interested in online games. Another key strength that can be identified is that, I have the ability to communicate with the children in a friendlier manner, that would help me to create a special bond with them.
Areas for development
In the website of the school it can be seen that there are a number of specialist teachers yet, there are various ways in which I can proactively aim at improving the learning process of the students. The classroom teaching can be developed by creating a professional environment where a surrounding of respect and trust should be developed between the me and the students. I should keep track of the attendance of the students and thereby be able to get accustomed to the issues prevailing in the student’s life. The reason behind the absenteeism of the students should be looked at and strategies should be made accordingly so that the students are more engaged in the learning process (Batanero and Homrani, 2016)
Strategies for development
An interactive session between the guardians should be conducted. This session can help to bring out various ideas about how can effective learning be done. It can also help the students to engage themselves in the learning process. Literature and numeric strategies should be formulated which will help the students to have a clear knowledge on subjects like English and maths. Different teaching strategy should be implemented which will help the students from different cultural backgrounds.
Resources
A database should be maintained by me where the student’s participation in various activities will be recorded regularly in order to observe whether all the students are participating equally or not. A book named “Side by Side” - big book can help the students to understand the intercultural values (Australian Government, 2011). There exists a website called “World of Values” which can be accessed to help the students understand the values and help them to develop respectful relationships.

The aim of this study was to reflect upon the development of a strategy of Australian professional standards. Professional knowledge is the key standard and its implementation on a Australian government school would empower me with the ability to improvise my activities as an effective teacher.
