b.Why has it gone wrong
c.What needs to change
d.How can it be changed
Answer:
Answer no. 1
There are certain ways in which the ATSI people of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people can be provided with better care and safety within their residential care homes (Australia.gov.au, 2017). Three possible ways can be described in this discussion:-
- a) In a residential
care, the people who belong to the ATSI communities should not be ignored at any cause. They should not feel that are alone and can be the probable victims in the workplace as they belong to the aboriginal community (Fernandez and Atwool 2013). They should be treated in the equal manner that all the other people are treated. The other community members should be included in any festival or celebration. The other people living with him should respect them and help them in their troubles. - b) The authority of the residential care homes should communicate with the people belonging to the ATSI culture properly (Fernandez and Atwool 2013). Many times they feel insecure at the workplace and hide it because of many reasons. Those reasons should be discussed with them by the authority and identify if there are any pressing needs for them to be resolved. They should begin with small and achievable objects and thus move forward with the bigger issues. The authority should motivate the ATSI people inspire them with confidence (Hart 2014).
- c) In a residential care, the ATSI people should not feel that is threatened for some action and be able to deliver the services in a creative and flexible manner. Programs for communicating with each other should be held informally in the houses of the ATSI people. It is also important to keep the cost of the products at a lower level that they use.
Answer no. 2
- It may be said that Brad is not feeling free at the residential care where he is living right now. He is feeling alone and attempting to abscond from the place (Herring et al. 2013). He is not getting the proper psychological support from the staff of the residential care home. This perhaps has gone wrong in the case of Brad.
- It may have gone wrong because the people over there in the residential care are discriminating Brad with the other people from the traditional cultures. He feels secluded from the rest and attempted to flee from there (Herring et al. 2013). This is really unfortunate for Brad as he is missing his own people and his own habits in his own territory.
- This whole scenario of discrimination needs to be changed because there are many other people like Brad who are at the same position and feel deprived in the so called ‘educated’ world (Herring et al. 2013). The lives of these people are at stake so something needs to be done as they are human beings as well.
- This could be done by taking some strict steps. Customary laws should be made in order to make the owners of residential care homes that they should not mistreat with the people of ATSI culture. Punishments should be made viable to the offenders. People like Brad should be rescued from the cruel jaws of racism (Herring et al. 2013).
