Similarly, in other journals I studied the psychological factors considered by the menu designers in the restaurants. I developed my concept that menu design is not done by selecting the available demanded food items; it is rather selected based on the psychological factors and regional trends of foods. I have also studied why a restaurant specialize their menu items such as Chinese food. In some particular location, the arrival of tourists influenced restaurants to specialize their food items. Nonetheless, the selection of journals was a difficult choice but in the lecture notes, I have studied that it is wise to focus on certain key words related to the topic of the research. Thereby, the journals that I have selected include the keywords such as menu design, psychological factors, formats, influence of print in menu design and others.
The experience that I have gained is valuable because I could use this experience in my next course projects. In addition, if I start working in a restaurant, I could use this experience of menu design. More specifically, if I work as the quality analyst, I must conduct a customer analysis where I have to consider this psychological factor and regional trends in menu designs. Besides this real life experience, I could also the knowledge in my course project where I have to conduct another research. Thereby, the techniques I have used in collecting the data will facilitate the ways of gathering the large set of information.
The learning process has been a steady experience as I have come across many techniques of researches. The lecture notes have helped me to learn the data collection techniques. In the weekly lecture notes, I have studied that research can be conducted by performing two different analysis such as primary analysis and secondary analysis. The lecture notes of third week helped me to select the research philosophy. While going through the philosophies, I have found that positivism research philosophy is mostly used in the business studies, as it increases the scope for observation. In addition, it also helps to extract the hidden truth from the research context. With the help of the lecture notes, I have also selected the data collection methods. In my current projects, I have used the secondary methods of collecting the data. This means I have collected the data from different reliable secondary sources such as books, journals, blogs, articles, newsletter and other sources.
In the learning process, firstly, I have collected the class notes of each week and arranged all the notes based on the subject course. Thereafter, I have gone through the notes of first week. I understood that I have to isolate the research proposal and literature review so that I could use separate techniques for each of the assessments. Similarly, I have read the lecture notes of fifth week to understand the guidelines of research proposal. Based on the guidelines given in the lecture notes, I have identified the research issues, which is related to the gaps found in the literature. Based on the research issues, I have developed the research objectives and questions.
The completion of two assessments helped me to gain a new insight regarding the business researches. I have understood that business studies can be effectively conducted by making hypothesis because the hypothesis helps to derive the accurate outcome from the research. I will further apply this knowledge to a real context and theoretical context. For example, if I start working in an organization and if I have to collect the data to learn consumer interest, I will apply the knowledge of collecting primary data. This means, I will conduct a survey where I will engage 100 customers of the organizations. I will set a questionnaire and in the questionnaire, I will form 15 close-ended questions. Hence, I will use the close-ended questions, as the customers may not have vast knowledge regarding the context compared to employees or managers of an organization. After collecting the data, I will present the data converting them into numeric digits; thereby, I could conduct the statistical analysis. While making the analysis, I will compare the collected data with the findings found in the existing studies. Thereafter, I will link the research objectives with the outcome found from the study. Eventually, I will apply the outcome to the business context to make changes in the strategies. I am very much optimistic that the knowledge I have derived from the assessments will further help me in other context as well.
