Bsbmgt801 Knowledge Management: Professional Development Assessment Answers

The researchers in this section synthesise the salient phases of knowledge management from previous literature. These phases ultimately form dimensions of the research knowledge management competence construct. Researchers often conceive knowledge management as a systematic process consisting of multiple phases.

For instance, Gold, Malhotra, and Segars (2001) described KM as a knowledge process capability that consists of knowledge acquisition, conversion, application and protection. Pentland (1995) defined KM process as an ongoing set of activities embedded in the socialand physical structure of the organisation with knowledge as their final product. Also, O’Dell and Grayson (1998) defined managing knowledge as a systematic approach to finding, understanding, and using knowledge to create value.

Bennett and Gabriel (1999) defined KM as a process that involves knowledge capture, storage (i.e. documentation), dissemination and use.According to Sedara and Gable (2010), some consensus is apparent with four common phases spanning the Knowledge Management Life cycle: acquisition/creation/integration,retention/storage/capture, sdisseminate and application/utilisation/use. More succinctly, Sedara and Gable (2010) suggested the four-phases: where these four-phases represent the full life cycle of Knowledge Management activities have been adapted by the researchers in this study.

This article recounts a study on an empirical investigation concerning knowledge management competencies through the face of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and their success based on the insights from Jordan.2 The authors note that the primary objectives of the study were to empirically examine the positive relationships between the mentioned competencies of knowledge management with the extended enterprise resource planning system
constructs that are based on aspects such as individual, workgroup and organizational impacts and the quality of the systems. In the introductory phase of the article, the authors briefly described how the success of various organizations has been well linked to the application of knowledge.

The ERP systems have been shown to integrate an institution’s processes and functions, therefore, becoming a vital resource in the manufacturing and production processes. The authors also noted the existence of knowledge management frameworks by the works of Chan and Rosemann who analyzed the significant roles knowledge types plays in the life cycle of ERP. 3

through a research model, the ERP success system that also includes individual, institutional, and workgroup impact with other aspects of information, system and consultancy quality. In this article, the authors have employed the system knowledge management framework where they mutually agreed on the elements of a system as part of an objective that is oriented to the achievement of the mutual purpose. I find this framework relevant to the article as it
conforms to the fact that all elements in a system have to fit together to be effective as well as using the systems approach or understanding its behavior through system thinking. This has been shown in the article where the authors outlined the application of knowledge by an individual or institution to the solving of their glitches at all levels of the organization.

In knowledge management, exploitation and exploration strategies in knowledge have considered some issues in the exploitation of disposable knowledge and exploration of new knowledge which has a relation to the impact of knowledge an organization needs. 4 I find these strategies very useful in this article as it has helped the authors in explaining the role knowledge plays in ERP system success measurements hence integrating the theoretical frameworks in this writing with those systems that evaluate the flexibility of any organization.

I find the article well researched and credible since it is clearly focused, organized appropriately, mechanically sound and fully developed. The authors have addressed their main idea and outlined it clearly by presenting their claims, opinions, and positions on a narrow topic. The organization is clearly shown by the introduction, body paragraphs and a well-written conclusion where each paragraph describes an aspect of the general topic and concludes with a
transition sentence to the subsequent paragraph. In my opinion, this article will leave readers with a sense of having a complete understanding of the discussion on the topic since it consists  4 Hyland, Ken, and Giuliana Diani. 2012. of facts, statistics, and logic. This article is well sound as it uses a standard written English using correct grammar, quality choice of words and good punctuation. The article is credible as the sources used are also authoritative and possess scholarly supportive documentation such as the figures, illustrations, and verifiable tables and also the authors’ credentials do not come from a biased source.

This article is unbiased as it simply reports and discusses the original findings in the research. I can, therefore, conclude that it is a scholarly article remains neutral on contrasting and controversial issues when analyzing different literature review. This has been noted in the concluding paragraph where the authors argue and suggest what other studies have reinforced towards the topic being discussed. They also out rightly discuss the studies’ limitations and used
perceptual measures to rule out personal biases.

6 Any potential conflict of interest between the authors was potentially ruled out in the disclosure statement. An article is likely to be reliable if it has been published within a few years in the past. 7 The article is reliable as it is an international journal of 2016 and the same information can be found in other sources as shown by the citing of other journals, books, and websites in their references. The article has influenced my thinking as it has enabled me to explain and analyze the concepts outlined by the authors from my own point of view. This has elicited my original ideas
and encouraged my active interest in the course materials. The concepts have forced me to reflect on the aims of my coursework in knowledge management as the insights presented in the article provide a baseline in which one can use those theoretical concepts in helping evaluate other  5 Hillocks, George. 2013. knowledge related frameworks and concepts. The article, through its informed opinions about different ideas, has encouraged me to be more thoughtful and balanced in my assessment of readings. This reading reflection has offered me an opportunity to recognize and perhaps, break down my assumptions on knowledge management which have been challenged by the author’s texts.

I have enjoyed evaluating this article as it has allowed me to analytically reflect upon the way authors present their ideas in an unbiased way. The authors presented their points in a very clear way which will also help me focus on the concept of knowledge management in my current study and future experiences. The article’s presentation has made me acknowledge that my thoughts may be shaped by preconceived ideas and unwanted assumptions, therefore, it has
helped me appreciate the ideas of other people and recognize that my ideas encourage or oppose what I read.

 Conclusion

Reflective writing helps one to critically engage with concepts from a course. 8 This will relate in the way one connects his/her observations, experiences and opinions with the concepts outlined in the course material hence analyzing them in his/her own point of view and encouraging active interest in the subject. Therefore, a reflection may require a narrow focus and a strong analysis of a topic.
