To what extent do you agree with the results of the self-assessment?
Emotional intelligence refers to the ability of an individual of recognizing and realizing his or her own emotions (Mayer, 1997). In addition it also refers to the successful management of the emotions according to different circumstances (Goleman, Boyatzis & McKee, 2002). Therefore, the assessment on emotional intelligence helped me to understand my strengths in terms of emotional intelligence. The result of the test shows my assumption of myself is similar with the test result. The result further proves that I took the test honestly. All the four areas of emotional intelligence inclusive of self awareness, self management, social awareness and relationship management scored high which I have been previously aware of. I agree with the score of self awareness as I also believe that I have a good hold over my emotions and I manage it successfully under any circumstances. Even in case of very difficult time I never lose confidence rather I take challenge to overcome that without being emotional. I also agree with the test result in terms of social awareness as I am empathetic to other people. In addition I always give priority on social relationships. My past achievements suggest that I capable persuade others which have also been revealed by the emotional intelligence assessment.
What have you learned about yourself from the results of this self-assessment?
The self assessment holds immense importance since it gives a strong support to my assumption. Even though I have been confident on ability and skills, and the outcome of the result, the assessment gave a deeper insight into that. I have learned that beside of possessing the ability of recognizing my emotions, I also have the ability of criticizing my emotions as well. I have gained a fair knowledge regarding the importance of emotional intelligence. I have learned emotional intelligence plays a major role while decision making. As per the result, my abilities of self management and social awareness are high in comparison with self awareness and relationship management abilities. Thus the result denotes I skillfully manage my emotions. In addition the test result reveals qualities within me such as dignity, integrity and honesty. My sense of responsibility is another quality is evident from the assessment result. While fulfilling my responsibilities I give value to the social relations. I value others emotions and perspective and never have overestimation about myself.
How might you use the insight from this self-assessment to improve your professional practice?
As suggested by the assessment result, I need to improve in all the areas of emotional intelligence inclusive of self awareness, self management, social awareness and relationship management. However, I need to give more efforts on improving self management and relationship management as they scored 7 while self management and social awareness scored 8 denoting a slight difference. Assessment over relationship management area is of the suggestion that I possess skills to become effective leaders who is capable of identifying qualities in other, developing skills, encouraging and persuading other and so on. On the other hand, the test result suggests that I can bring new ideas and can direct individuals towards success efficiency. However, the result also suggests further scope of improvement. Additionally, the assessment was of high importance since it provided a brief overview of each of the four components of emotional intelligence which will further help me in impartment.
