Introduction:
There are various leadership theories required to lead and manage the performance of a project. The research, ‘How to lead and manage
high performing project’ is needed to be established on the two leadership theories of McGregor and Hersey-Blanchard.
According to the McGregor’s theory, there are two ways of managing people named as X and Y. Theory X describes, an average individual who doesn’t like work can achieve goals with coercion and threats of punishment since they values security in work rather ambition. Theory Y describes, an average individual can be motivated by rewards on achieving goals and a proper environment can drive them for the organizational goals (McGregor, 1960).
Following Hersey-Blanchard’s theory, the leadership quality is based on the leadership style and the maturity level of the person. Theory M1 reflects the incompetency of work culture. Theory M2 replicates incompetency with will of work. Theory M3 states the competency along with failure in work. Theory M4 shapes the ideal as competent and will for work along with ability for success (Meirovich & Gu, 2015).
These two theories are equipped with the understanding of the leadership style of Project Managers who will be a part of this research. Henceforth, these theories are justified to be chosen
The research is going to be conducted by interviews and surveys with the experienced Project Managers. The theories of McGregor and Hersey-Blanchard are needed to find out the personality traits and leadership style of those Project Managers. The theoretical framework of the mentioned leadership theories are necessary to be applied in this research to get desired outcomes.
