726PMGT Project Management- Construction of Karratha Health Campus

The state of Western Australia mainly faces number of problems due to absence of proper health campus and as a result, the government takes the initiative of constructing Karratha Health Campus on a site, which is located in Pilbara region for resolving the problems that the state government faces (Projectconnect.com 2017). The health campus that is constructed not only resolves the problems but also assists in providing proper facility to the remote communities. In order to construct the health campus the state generally elects some surplus land that is adjacent to the public health facility.

In addition to the selection of the land available, the contribution of the state is likely limited to the provision related with land. It is identified that various types of proponents are required by the state in order to design, operate and construct the facilities that are provided by Karratha Health Campus. The state combines both Brookfield multiplex and Cooper Oxley for forming joint venture so that the entire project will be delivered properly within the estimated budget that is around $270M (Ww2.health.wa.gov.au 2017). 

The joint venture helps in bringing valuable experience with the community of Pilbara. The Karatha health campus is mainly constructed for providing appropriate services to the people of Pilpara. It is identified that the health campus helps in providing number of appropriate facilities by implementing appropriate ambulatory care centre emergency departments, surgical centre, maternity wing as well as medical imaging.

3. Outline the objectives of the project and its importance

 The main objectives of the Karratha Health Campus project are as follows:

• To provide proper improved emergency services to both rural and remote communities.
• To offer appropriate accommodation in Karratha for patients, visitors as well as staffs
• To enhance the health initiatives of Aboriginal
• To increase accesses for specialist services through enhancement of information and communication Technology

 The Karratha Health Campus is mainly constructed for replacing the existing Nickol Bay hospital and for expanding emergency as well as ambulatory care departments. The state of Western Australia faces number of problems as well as challenges due to unavailability of appropriate health campus and as a result, in order to resolve the challenges the government wants to invest $270M so that the project of Karratha Health Campus will be constructed properly (Cabinet 2017).  The project will provide facility of 40 hospital beds, ambulatory care centre emergency departments, surgical centre, maternity wing as well as medical imaging.  Therefore, with the implementation of Karratha Health Campus, the people of Western Australia including Pilbara will be able to access the facility of the health campus easily without any difficulty.

4. Detailed overview and analysis of the use of relevant project management concepts, tools and technique

4.1 Process utilized for defining the project

The project manager of Karratha health campus utilizes proper steps for defining the project. The steps are elaborated below:

Planning phase: In the planning phase, the project manager creates appropriate planning for constructing Karratha health campus properly (Burke 2013). The project managers generally engage in various activities that include requirement analysis, estimation of time and budget as well as preparation of time schedule.

Initiation phase: Initiation phase is generally created for define the objectives, scope as well as deliverable of the project. The project manager mainly engages in procuring funds, preparing financial plan, appointing contractors and analyzing number of risk related with Karratha health campus for resolving the risk appropriately.

 Requirement Analysis: The various requirements as well as needs of the project must be analyzed properly in order to collect proper information about the requirements that are needed in order to construct the Karratha health campus (Yarwood et al. 2014). Appropriate requirement analysis is also needed in order to provide appropriate service to the organization including ambulatory care centre emergency facility, surgical centre, maternity wing as well as medical imaging facility.

Analysis of project nature: The nature of the project must be analyzed properly so that the project managers can easily execute the project by arranging appropriate resources as well as materials. It is identified that appropriate knowledge about the project helps in providing a clear overview to the project planner and as a result, the “Karratha health campus” will be constructed within the estimated budget as well as time without facing much difficulty (Wu et al. 2014). However if the employees of the organization does not have appropriate information about the nature of the project then they faces number of challenges as well as difficulties in completing the entire project.

5. Conclusion 

It can be concluded that Karratha health campus will be constructed properly if both budget as well as time for the project will be estimated properly. It is identified that the health campus is mainly constructed in order to replace the existing Nickol Bay hospital and for expanding emergency as well as ambulatory care departments. The project manager utilizes appropriate stages for completing the project successfully. The project faces number of challenges as well as risk, which must be managed effectively. In order to manage the risk appropriately, proper risk management steps are elaborated so that the risk that are rising in the project will be resolved easily.
