Part one: As part of the week 3 readings you were asked to review the "timeline of communication history" written by Irving Fang which identifies seven time periods listed on page one of his article. (This PDF document is in Canvas in the weeks three-module)
 
Unfortunately, the timeline ends in 1995 what I would like you to do is the list and identify 10 developments in communications that have occurred since 1996. You need to identify what each item was and the year it was released, developed or launched.

You must not use these three as part of your 10 developments. If you have never heard of Google Knol do not worry, it was discontinued May 1, 2012. 

Part two: Write a 6 to 8 page academic paper, not including the bibliography, where you take three (3)_ historical developments from one of the Seven (7)_ time periods as indicated on the index at the top of the "Timeline of Communication History" The 7th time period is anything after 1996, i.e. part one of this assignment and compare 7th time period is anything after 1996, i.e. part one of this assignment and compare and contrast how they are similar yet different. In other words, show how they developed out of previous developments. What if anything do they have in common? In your opinion is an earlier item better than the one it replaced?

For example, one could analyze how mail and news delivery has transformed since Twitter was released in 2006 (7th time period: 1996 onwards) and compare and contrast it with how Roman couriers were used to carrying mail across the Roman Empire in 100 A.D. (1st time period - Ancient and Early Eras: 3500BC-1099 AD) and the changes that were brought about by the invention of the telegraph by Francis Ronalds in 1823 (5th time period: 19th century). 

For this assignment, along with your ability to compare and contrast the three historic communication developments, I will be looking at your ability to research the developments in communication history and explain how one development is related to, built on, or enhanced its predecessor with examples of how developments from the earlier time periods can be seen in later developments.

You will need to use at least 3 academic sources* (academic books and articles) and at least two reputable non - academic source (ie Vancouver Sun, National Post, Globe and Mail, CBC, The Guardian, The Telegraph, or the BBC etc.)
