Instructions: Research Report Assessment 1 (Two Parts) This is an opportunity for you to develop an understanding of what makes a leader effective by looking at one relevant leadership theory and presenting this in a literature review. From this knowledge, further self- assessments and reflections you will create your own leadership development action plan. Overall word count is 3000 words +/- 10%) Part One -Literature Review Identify a leader you admire and has been effective and after some research pick one of the leader’s main leadership styles, behaviours or approaches (for example transformational leadership, democratic, servant, or entrepreneurial to name but a few). Undertake a literature review in this one area of leadership theory and summarise from the journals and texts a case for why this makes a leader effective. (1350 words) Part Two - Your leadership research and development plan In the second part of the report, undertake at least 5 self-assessments (quizzes) to determine what areas you could develop for your leadership effectiveness and discuss this before undertaking your leadership plan. You will also reflect on your past leadership experiences either as student or at your internship or work. If you have not had direct leadership experience, then reflect on your selfleadership. From this, you will identify and justify 3 areas for your development based on your research into leadership theories, this might include for example; traits theory, transformational leadership theory, or situational leadership theories. Or you could look at any of the following leadership styles for example; either servant or ethical. Please ensure you do research to understand these areas further in order for you to develop a leadership plan. The plan will include the areas you have identified, justifying why you picked these areas and then what you will do to develop these. This includes showing your timeframes, activities and measures of success in an action plan format. (1350 words) Throughout part one and two you must show your research has come from 8 quality academic sources (peer reviewed journals and texts) and have used the concepts and theories to support your personal leadership analysis and plan.
