Details of the task:

You need to produce an individual assessment report of 2500 words on the total planning and management of an event project to raise the profile/income of a major charity or an event of a similar nature. You can select an event that you have been involved with or develop a report about an event from scratch. Your chosen event may plan and manage an event that is outdoor, indoor or both, or an activity based event. It should be targeted towards at least 100 members of the public. If you are writing about an event you are involved in with other students, an individual report must be prepared by each student while you work as a group on the development of the plan itself. This report requires that you include:

Introduction 20%

1. Brief event description & scope

2. Event aims and objectives

Event plan 70%

3. Detail how the event will be resourced – money, people, plant & equipment

4. Brief outline of strategy for event risk management requirements covering:

a) Cost

b) Quality

c) Time

d) Environmental

e) Occupational health and safety

f) Public safety

5. Explain the marketing strategy of the event

Gantt Chart 10%

6. Detailed Gantt Chart of the Event Project

A Gantt chart - indicating the main tasks you will be engaged in to implement your event project plan with clear starting dates and should start with the day the assignment was handed out and ends by the implementation of the event.

The assignment should also include: -

Literature review on the theories, concepts & models (at around 10 references stated in Harvard Style to relevant academic research articles, reports and books) on the event planning process.

Discussions relating to the description of the event, its aim and objectives are clear, innovative and creative demonstrating excellent understanding of the main task and concepts. All the discussions relating to the planning of resources; risk management including cost, quality, time, environment, occupational health and safety and public safety; and marketing strategy of the event are structured, cohesive and well argued demonstrates excellent understanding and knowledge of the event planning and management process. Discussions relating to the recommendations on how the event would be implemented including a Gantt Chart are all interrelated and very well structured. In general, the submission is supported throughout with excellent evidence of relevant secondary data and literature research which is used appropriately.

Merit 60-69

Discussions relating to the description of the event, its aim and objectives are clear, and there is good evidence of innovative and creative thinking demonstrating good understanding of the main task and concepts. Majority of the tasks are covered including discussions relating to the planning of resources; risk management including cost, quality, time, environment, occupational health and safety and public safety; and marketing strategy of the event. In main these are structured, cohesive and reasonably well argued demonstrating good understanding and knowledge of the event planning and management process. Discussions relating to the recommendations on how the event would be implemented including a Gantt Chart are mainly interrelated and well structured. In general, the submission is supported throughout with good evidence of relevant secondary data and literature research which is used appropriately.

Pass 50-59

Discussions relating to the description of the event, its aim and objectives are clear, and there is acceptable evidence of innovative and creative thinking demonstrating competent understanding of the main task and concepts. Majority of the tasks are covered but lack detail discussions relating to the planning of resources; risk management including cost, quality, time, environment, occupational health and safety and public safety; and marketing strategy of the event. In main these are reasonably structured, cohesive and reasonably well argued demonstrating acceptable understanding and knowledge of the event planning and management process. Discussions relating to the recommendations on how the event would be implemented including a Gantt Chart are competently interrelated and structured. In general, the submission is supported in most parts with good evidence of relevant secondary data and literature research which is used appropriately in most places.

Demonstrates an understanding of a complex body of knowledge and the ability to synthesise knowledge from a range of appropriate sources. Is able to apply knowledge to specific scenarios in an appropriate manner and can develop an argument which is clearly justified and relevant to the task in hand. Has a grasp of recent research findings and demonstrates a developing maturity in critically evaluating concepts and abstract principles, and limited originality in addressing business problems.

Displays understanding of the basics with evidence of some appropriate reading. May lack the ability to develop a well-structured argument which is sufficiently focused on the task in hand.
