You may use the same business idea that you worked on with your team during the module but you must not submit any written work that has already been submitted (this will be checked). You must only submit work that has been written and researched by yourself – this is an individual, not a group assignment.  If you prefer, you can choose a business idea different from the one you worked on with your team.

Your report should describe your business idea in two inter-related sections:

1) Executive summary to include the high-level elements a potential investor would want to know. It is suggested that you use no more than 500 words for this section.

2) Outline a strategy and plan for one of the following areas, to cover the first 4 years of the business:

·Competitor and environment analysis

·Marketing

·Finance

·Risk management

·Human resources

·Operations    

You should provide evidence from your own research to support the business idea and apply any relevant tools, concepts, data and frameworks that were explored during the module or from your own reading.

Please submit one electronic copy of your business plan before the stated deadline.

LEARNING OUTCOMES AND MARKING CRITERIA

Understand and apply key aspects of new venture creation and development, including: deciding upon a business idea, developing a ‘value proposition’ for customers, and refining a ‘business model’ to deliver the value proposition to customers.

Understand the interaction between various key functional areas within Management.

Acquire and organise information from a wide range of source materials.

Analyse and prepare solutions to an increasingly complex set of business problems.

No attempt to apply the business planning concepts using the various frameworks/concepts/tools taught on the module.

Most or all of the main content areas required within a business plan have not been included.

No attempt to show the connection between the business idea, value proposition, and business model.

Overall, the work demonstrates no attempt at analysis and evaluation, and is entirely descriptive.
