Star Communication Pty ltd is a communication organization based in Sydney. It provides various communication services. It has a networked system with 50 computers connected using cisco 2800 series router and three 24 point switches. The computers are using Windows 7. It uses a network server, file, and web server. It is using Windows Server 2008 in the Server. But for authentication, the computers are using the window’s computer-based login, and the domain controller has not been setup. 

 The CEO of the Star is very concerned with the security of the organization’s network because of the increasing hacking or data breach events in the IT industry (reported in the media). Star Communication is planning to secure the network server and services, including using appropriate authentication methods.

Similarly, if someone needs to remotely connect remotely, the connection should be encrypted and also the unused port such as ftp(21) should be closed (using windows firewall). However, SSH port (22) should be opened.

The company wants to host inhouse server using IIS.

There should be centralised authentication system with different categories of users (with strong password policy). The server logs should be maintained and monitored for the security. There should be mechanism for backup and security incident reporting.

The organisation also plans to update its security policies once the tasks are completed.
