Hlt100 Anatomy And Physiology: Physiology Assessment Answer
Question:
Description:
The goal of this task is to demonstrate your understanding of complex interactions between multiple body systems. This task will ask you to:
- Demonstrate your knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the integumentary, digestive and skeletal body systems.
- Describe the complex interactions between these body systems to maintain health, wellbeing and homeostasis for the individual in your chosen scenario.
Instructions
- In this task, you will provide a written response to a Case Study.
Choose Either Case Study A or Case Study B for your assessment.
Case Study A: Jeremy
Jeremy is a 62-year-old male, who is 180cm tall, weighs 98kg, and has a waist circumference of 105cm. He lives in Queensland, and travels to the factory each day where he works in a manufacturing organisation.
- In the factory, Jeremy one day accidentally burns himself. Upon assessment, it is confirmed that Jeremy received second-degree burns to a large section of his forearm. Drawing on your knowledge of the anatomy & physiology of the skin:
- Explain what structures have been damaged to result in this categorisation of burn for Jeremy, and
- Fully explore what functions may be lost (and why) in future at the burn site.
- Jeremy has recently been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and has been advised to manage this by controlling his carbohydrate intake.
- Explain the process involved in the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates, and consider how the make-up of carbohydrates in his diet (simple or complex) will affect his carbohydrate digestion and absorption.
- Discuss two (2)main uses of carbohydrates in the body.
- Jeremy also suffers with osteoarthritis, which leaves him with painful knees. His younger colleague, Todd (29 years-old), has bouts of pain from rheumatoid arthritis. Although he recognises that the conditions are similar, Jeremy doesn’t think that they are the same. Using patient-friendly terminology that Jeremy will be able to follow:
- Outline the anatomical mechanisms and possible causes of Jeremy’s osteoarthritis
- Compare and contrast Jeremy and Todd’s conditions, exploring the similarities and differences between them.
- It has been suggested that Jeremy start exercising to help manage his Type 2 Diabetes. Considering all of the information you have about Jeremy’s case, explore what benefits this may bring him, consider any possible risks of doing so, and make an evidence-based recommendation for how he may safely proceed with this suggestion.
Case Study B: Kate
Kate is 28 years old, and she is pregnant with her first baby. She lives in Queensland, and is just about to enter her second trimester. Kate has had very few complications so far with her pregnancy.
- At home, Kate one day accidentally touches a hot pan and burns herself. Upon assessment, it is confirmed that she received second-degree burns to a large section of her forearm. Drawing on your knowledge of the anatomy & physiology of the skin:
- Explain what structures have been damaged to result in this categorisation of burn for Kate, and
- Fully explore what functions may be lost (and why) in future at the burn site.
- To minimise her risk of Gestational Diabetes, Kate has been advised to control her carbohydrate intake.
- Explain the process involved in the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates, and consider how the make-up of carbohydrates in her diet (simple or complex) will affect her carbohydrate digestion and absorption.
- Discuss two (2)main uses of carbohydrates in the body.
- Kate and her grandmother, June (75 years-old), both suffer from arthritis; Kate has managed her rheumatoid arthritis for 2 years now, whilst June was diagnosed with osteoarthritis 7 years ago. Using patient-friendly terminology that Kate (and June) will be able to follow:
- Compare and contrast Kate and June’s conditions, exploring the anatomical mechanisms, similarities and differences between them.
- Explain TWO (2)specific considerations that Kate needs to be aware of in regards to her grandmother’s osteoarthritis.
- Kate is a keen runner, and wants to continue exercising during her pregnancy to maintain her fitness. Considering the entirety of Kate’s case, explore what benefits this may bring her, consider any possible risks of doing so, and make an evidence-based recommendation for how she may safely proceed with this suggestion.
