Critical Analysis Of Csr Assessment Answer
Assessment for this course consists on a single portfolio including: a) the copy of all engagement tasks submitted and peer reviews received; and, b) a 3,000-word portfolio report, followed by references and any appendix (references and appendix are out of word count). The final portfolio is to be submitted at the end of the course. Please note that the word count only applies to the report, and does not refer to the engagement tasks that you are expected to copy and paste in the first part of the portfolio (see details in the following pages).
The main task of the portfolio is the critical analysis of the CSR approaches and potential social enterprise alternatives to them, together with the practical application of ethical theory. That involves two components: one individual and one group.
For the individual component you are expected to choose one TNC which will be your main focus of study through Modules 1-3. You will need to perform the critical analysis of CSR approaches put forward by your chosen company with application of at least one ethical theory. The steps in your TNC research are also your formative assignments described in detail in the following section.
For the group component you will be arranged in groups of 4-5 peers during your first tutorial. The members of your group will need to agree and decide which sector/industry they want to investigate as a group and that will inform your choice of TNCs e.g. sector – fast food; TNCs – McDonald’s, KFC, Burger King, etc.
In Module 4 you will prepare a joint presentation that will be a basis for Part 7 of your Portfolio. Building on individual TNC and ethical issues/CSR approach research completed by the end of Module 3, as a group you will need to assess pros and cons of the social enterprise as an alternative to the needs of stakeholders and as a response to the issues identified in your studied TNCs/sector with application of at least one (same throughout the Portfolio) ethical theory.
You are expected, using a rich set of sources and applying the most appropriate theoretical frameworks and concepts, to critically analyse and discuss the following aspects:
– the CSR issues associated with the company of your choice;
– the variation in the CSR issues and approach your chosen company uses in different countries,
especially considering the specificities of the activities in emerging markets associated with the
selected company/sector;
– the most relevant stakeholders in your chosen TNC-related case (local, national, and/or global)
– a) the CSR strategies and b) alternative social enterprise forms that can be used to tackle ethical
b) alternative social enterprise forms that can be used to tackle ethical issue(s) identified with your selected company and some examples from your group member companies for comparison e.g. low wages and use processed meats vs living wage and use of sustainable unprocessed meats; recommendations/plan for a social enterprise alternative with pros and cons of it as an option identified.
A detailed description of each section of the proposed Portfolio structure is found below on p.23. The course is structured in such a way to allow you to develop the portfolio over time, having in this way the opportunity to receive feedback from your tutor and peers. A number of intermediate tasks are indeed set requiring you to prepare a first draft of what will be the content of your portfolio.
These activities will be taking place on Moodle and you will need to include (copy and paste) your entries on Moodle at the beginning of the portfolio to show your online engagement over the year (see later the recommended portfolio structure). You are encouraged to make reference to your online activities within the final submission, both as evidence of your thoughts and to further support your ideas.
The calendar and submission deadlines for the preparation tasks are presented in the table below.
The final document you will be submitting will integrate all your Moodle entries, as per the recommended structure. Students are required to submit the portfolio as a single PDF file.
Please note that in the portfolio you are expected to provide evidence of knowledge and application of relevant theories, as well as your critical thinking and reflective skills. Arguments should be developed in a consistent, structured, and clearly organised way. Appropriate references should be taken from the reading list of the course as well as from relevant academic journals in the management, international business, business ethics and corporate social responsibility areas. You are also encouraged to read relevant practice oriented literature and recent and updated financial, economic and business press. When analysing the situation of the company remember not to rely simply on the firm’s website, but that multiple sources should be used.
