4000 words (plus / minus 10% is allowed) Choose any personal testimony of being a victim or being a survivor. Critically assess your chosen text in the light of the most relevant theoretical dilemmas and policy possibilities discussed in the course. Things to include in your essay: 1. Give a summary of your chosen testimony. 2. Do you think they are/were a victim or a survivor or some mix of these? 3. What help or assistance did they receive? What do you think they would have benefited from in terms of support? 4. Was this something that was handled by the criminal justice system? What did they think of this process? How do you think this might that have been improved, if at all? 5. Was this something that was handled by some other professional service? What did they think of this process? How do you think this might have been improved if at all? 6. What theoretical perspective within victimology would help make best sense of this person’s experiences? 7. Does the concept of trauma help make sense of their experiences? If so, in what ways? 8. What value is personal testimony to criminology and/or victimology? I have written about 700 words for this paper so far and have done some research. The text that I used to analyze is an autobiography of Jaycee Lee Dugard, A Stolen Life.
