Assessment 2 – SIMULATION
In this simulation, you will take the role of a Business Consultant for a new café initiative called The Parisian. In this role, you will show your skills in developing, monitoring, and reviewing a business plan.
Task 1: Develop Business Plan
In this task, you will review the Business Brief then interpret the vision, mission, values, and overall objectives. You will then delve into this strategic direction and set about researching the market requirements and customer needs, and with this information, you will identify the physical and labour needs as well as the establishment costs associated with these resources. Next, you will review the regulatory requirements associated with operating a café in particular the permits and licenses required, and set the performance objectives and targets including financial indicators. You will then have a consultative session with the Owner to present your draft Business Plan in order to seek input. Finally, you will complete the contents of your Business Plan by entering all the information and data into the Business Plan Template provided.
Instructions:
Note that the deliverable of Task 1 is your final Business Plan. Therefore, you will not need to enter any information here.
To develop your Business Plan, you are required to use the Business Plan Template provided to you by your Assessor.
Read the requirements of each task (Task 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, and 1.7) in your Student Assessment Guide and insert information into your Business Plan Template accordingly.
Note that in task 1.6, you are required to hold an interactive session with the Owner of The Parisian which does not require inserting any information in this Student Assessment Workbook. Refer to your Student Assessment Guide for detailed instructions.
Once you finalise your Business Plan:
- attach a copy to your Student Assessment Workbook
- move to Task 2 where you will be inserting your responses in this Student Assessment Workbook.
Task 2: Monitor Performance
In this task, you will communicate with the Owner and other stakeholders requesting them to confirm their understanding of the performance requirements and timeframes. You will populate the Workforce Requirements Template provided to ensure a ready supply of skilled labour. You will review the documents titled Performance Report (18 April) and Continuous Improvement Register (26 April) and make comments on the merits as well as adjustments for further improvements. Finally, you will review the results achieved in the Performance Received (End of May) document and create a new performance report accordingly.
2.1 Communicate business plan to all relevant parties

Task 3: Respond to Performance Data
In this task, you will use the information obtained in Task 2 then summarise the achievement of targets by calculating the variance. You will then make adjustments to the performance indicators and overall objectives of the Business Plan. You will then address one of the critical issues emerging by coaching a Café Operator on customer service attitude. Following on from this will be an evaluation of the overall issues that have emerged over the past few months. You will be required to review the findings and develop system strategies to further the improvement of the business.
