Purpose

The objective of this assignment is to evaluate students’ ability to discuss the importance of intercultural communication, the challenges of intercultural communication and strategies to improve intercultural communication skills among people living in Malaysia.

Requirement

Almost all the time, a person engages in communicating with other people. Not all individuals have similar background and practices. Communication effectiveness does not depend only on the ability of a person to speak verbally or express through non-verbal communication. Not all interaction among people achieves the objectives. On the other hand, one most important factor is to understand the pattern of communication that involves different cultures. Only by understanding the other culture will a person be able to expect, adapt and assimilate himself in a meaningful relation with another. 

Based on the above statement

1.In today’s era of globalisation, discuss the importance of intercultural communication among Malaysian society.  

2.Critically analyse THREE challenges faced by intercultural communication – locally and globally.

3.In your opinion, to what extend does the intercultural communication between Malaysian is effective. Discuss THREE points by giving relevant examples/facts/references.

4.Propose effective strategy on how to improve intercultural communication skills among people living in Malaysia.

5.Once you have completed writing the essay part – your next task is to prepare a video for 5-minute duration to show/present all the challenges of intercultural communication and its effectiveness among Malaysian that have been discussed in your essay:  

a.Use your creativity in preparing the video presentation – it could be prepared by using (a) PowerPoint Slides and present; OR (b) Still photos or YouTube and present; OR (c) Any other creative way to develop your video presentation.

b.However, please make sure your voice and face can be identified and seen during the presentation for evaluation purposes (refer to the rubric of video presentation).
