1. PROJECT AIMS ANDOBJECTIVES

• The project is designed to give you understanding of how steel framed buildings are protected from fire in buildings.

• It will also give you understanding of the theory behind progressive collapse and how buildings are designed to avoid this phenomenon.

• It will enable you to gain some hands-on experience of the fundamentals in conceptual structural design.

• It will demonstrate how the appropriate Standards and Codes of Practice are used.

• You will gain a basic understanding of the sustainability issues in construction.

• You will also gain a basic understanding of Health & Safety issues in construction.

• Encourage communications, interaction and teamwork between students and colleagues.

2. FORMATION OF GROUPS

• Students are to form their own groups of 6 students. The Module leader will allocate students who are unable to find a group to a group.

• As a group, you are required to meet regularly, preferably on a weekly basis to discuss design progress, associated tasks, monitor peer contribution and progress. You are encouraged to monitor attendance

at project meetings.

All groups are strongly encouraged to use these additional opportunities to ask questions and seek clarifications.

3. FINAL REPORT SUBMISSION

• The Final report is to be collated in a single PDF document which is to be uploaded through the submission link on Aula prior to the submission date stated previously.

• The information that is to be included within your report is as outlined in the marking scheme.

• The final submission is to be in the form of a single PDF file including a collation of all of the above.
