Part 1: Entrepreneur Profile Literature Review and Annotated Bibliography Assignment
Purpose
The purpose of Part 1 of this assignment is to conduct research to develop a strong understanding of the attributes, traits, influences (psychological, social, economic etc), personal characteristics and circumstances and other factors that affect the entrepreneurial mindset. You will be required to research a variety of sources and will use this information in Part 2: Entrepreneurial Profile and Analysis assignment. In Part 2, you will be interviewing or researching an entrepreneur and determining whether the entrepreneur has the characteristics and influences found in the research. You can refer to Part 2 of this assignment to learn about the requirements for that part. The goal is to apply the concepts learned in this course and from your research by demonstrating your understanding of the entrepreneurial mindset as well as the personal characteristics and other circumstances associated with entrepreneurial success.
Assignment
Research Questions:
- Who becomes an entrepreneur?
- What are the personal characteristics and traits of an entrepreneur?
- What are the various influences (psychological, social, economic, political etc.) on entrepreneurial behaviour or predictors of entrepreneurial behaviour?
- What is an entrepreneurial mindset and how does it happen?
Factors that Affect the Entrepreneurial Mindset
The first part of the assignment will focus on collecting research about what factors contribute to the entrepreneurial mindset. Throughout the course we have looked at several of these factors and below is a list of possible influences. After completing the research, you should have a good summary of these factors. You can research any or all of these factors, or find additional factors throughout your research. You should have at least 8 different factors from various peer-reviewed sources.
Possible Factors:
- Attributes and traits (i.e. perseverance, Cultural Influences propensity for risk, internal locus of control etc) Economic Influences
- Characteristics Political Influences
- Mindset Personal Circumstances
- Psychological influences Role of creativity
- Social Influences Other factors
- Historical Influences
Sources:
You are required to use information from a variety of sources such as the courseware pack, online resources, library database and additional readings on Blackboard. You should have at least 8 sources and at least 4 of them should come from outside, scholarly, peer-reviewed sources (e.g. Library database). The goal of this research is to discover the factors that influence or affect the entrepreneurial mindset or predict entrepreneurial activity and behaviours.
Requirements:
- Include research on at least 8 factors that contribute to the entrepreneurial mindset or entrepreneurial activity.
- Include at least 8 sources (from a variety of resources) that explain factors that contribute to the entrepreneurial mindset, behaviours and/or activity.
- Present your findings in an annotated bibliography type format. A description of an annotated bibliography is included below.
- Include an APA formatted document.

Annotated Bibliography
An annotated bibliography is a list of citations to books, articles, and other resources. For this assignment, you can use the articles from the courseware pack but you must also use other sources. At least 4 of them should come from outside sources. Each citation is followed by a brief descriptive and evaluative paragraph. The purpose of the annotation is to inform the reader of the relevance of the sources cited. Annotations are usually about 100-150 words. The annotation should be both descriptive and critical.
You are required to find 8 sources that include at least 4 scholarly, peer-reviewed sources for your annotated bibliography. The annotated bibliography is an alphabetical listing of your sources with a proper APA citation but below each citation you will also include a summary paragraph that describes the factor or factors (attributes, characteristics, influences etc.) that contribute to the entrepreneurial mindset or activity described in that source. It will resemble a reference page with the additional summary below each citation.
The summary (or annotation) briefly restates the main argument of a source. An annotation typically identifies its thesis or research question and hypothesis, its major methods of investigation, and its main conclusions. Keep in mind that identifying the argument and findings of a source is a different task than describing or listing its contents.
