INST 733 Database Design- Impacts on the Unavailability

One of the great things about sketches is that in addition to providing a visual idea for a design, they can be used to easily generate multiple ideas due to the short amount of time it takes to create a sketch.

 

In this discussion, you and your colleagues will create sketches, and you will have a chance to choose one. You can draw your sketch on paper and submit a scan or a clear photograph of it, or you can use a digital tool to create the sketch.

 

Suppose you are designing the UX for a greenhouse that sells all sorts of plants, from typical indoor plants to exotics. Sketch the category page for the web application and post it to the discussion board with a three- to four-paragraph description of what you sketched.

Database – Meaning & Definition

A database is a term that refers to the structured set of data that is stored in a computer system. There have been many transformations that have been done in the field of databases. With the change in technology, there are cloud databases, NoSQL databases and a number of other virtual databases that have been developed.

Examples of Databases

There are many database applications that are available such as SQL, MySQL, NoSQL and cloud databases. These are the relational databases that store the information in the form of tables and the relationship among the tables is also stored (Roy, Orr & Suciu, 2015).

These databases form the back-end of the application and all the application data and information is stored in the databases.

Unavailability of the Databases

There are updates that are required to be done in the databases which may lead to the occurrence of downtime.

There may be many database related security risks and attacks that may occur such as denial of service, malware attacks and other flooding attacks. With the occurrence of these attacks, the databases may become unavailable. There are many network related attacks that may occur on the cloud and NoSQL databases (Strauch, 2016).

Impacts on the Unavailability of the Databases 

There may be severe impacts in case the databases become unavailable. The information will not get stored and it will also not be possible to manage the data sets. These impacts may result in the unavailability and the breakdown of the entire application. This will lead to the deterioration of the customer trust and experience.
